Ordering First MTM Suit!

I'm thinking of ordering my first MTM suit soon and would like some input. It will be with Scabal fabric, but otherwise my options are open.

For the jacket I am thinking of a single breasted, either 2 button or 3 to 2 roll, notched lapels with high gorge, double vents, funky colored bemberg lining. Not sure what type of pockets to get.

For the trousers, flat front with 1 5/8 inch cuffs (yes, I like cuffs).

What other options should I be considering? Anything special to pay attention to while being fitted (besides wearing dress shoes)? I'm not sure what all I can and should specify. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

This belongs in the "overrated" thread. I think you'll tire of it quickly. Get something simple that harmonizes with the suit cloth.

Different MTM programs offer varying degrees of latitude in the customer's control over the basic pattern. That said, consider: Jacket: Front quarters (how open/closed). Shoulder construction/padding. Lapel width. Trousers: Rise. Dimensions of the thigh, knee and cuff. Braces, belt or side tabs. Lining. And, I agree with Chorse on lining. KISS.

Are you working with a brand or an independent MTM firm?

Most important is to know the silhouette you want and determine if what you want and what they offer is a match. You won't get a Borrelli, Kiton type of look if you are ordering form Hickey Freeman or Brooks Bros or vice versa. The silhouette is inerrant to the make and somewhat inflexible to changes. You won't get the look you want just from adjusting your measurements.

Be clear about how close to the body or how full you want the jacket and trouser cut.

Need more info to advise you about styling details. Is this a dressy suit or casual, any pattern in the cloth or texture? Styling details should be selected by your tastes and preferences and should compliment and be proportioned to your build and size.

Thanks for the info. Scabal is having an MTM special offer and one of their master tailors is coming to town here in Germany. The suit will be for the office. I am thinking of getting a solid navy S120 fabric that has a very discreet textured pinstripe in the weave. I am considering either a 2 button peak lapel or a 3 to 2 roll notch lapel. I will get the arm holes as small as possible, very little shoulder padding, and have them open the quarters of the jacket.

Nothing to add to the expert opinions above, other than please post photos when you're done. I'm not too familiar with Scabal's clothing but will assume they're doing it at a reasonably high standard.
