2 questions: Where have you been already? And, more importantly, what do you like to do with your free time? It's no good recommending Vegas if you're a recovering gambling addict.

Thank you all for the recs, some are a tad more practical than others but they all sound damn good.

We wanted a balance between relaxation and exploration, and given our situation, we kinda had to make this trip one of those "bucket list" trips. As in "before I die I want to go see..." As it turned out, when Mrs. Thomas said "anywhere" she really meant "anywhere close to the Louvre". So there we go.

But I now have a list for future trips.

Ah but I did not say Paris. She's indifferent to Paris - The Sorbonne, Le Tour Eiffel, City of Light - all mean nothing to her. And since our stay at the CDG ibis she's a bit...skewed away from staying in Paris, but London is a decent ride by Chunnel (as I'm told) so there we have it.

Mmmm, the CDG Ibis does blow.

Best place I've ever stayed in Paris was the 3 ducks hostel. Got blind drunk within 2 hours of checking in and hooked up with a hot little Aussie named Monique. Granted, this was about 12 years ago and it may not be the place to take Mrs. T for a romantic weekend...

I took the train from London to Paris last month...It was rather enjoyable. Definitely more convenient than flying.

well, that is some fantastic adventure... if you don't mind the [approx. $200, iirc] airport tax per person to fly out of LHR__ unless you're taking arunk from CDG [just meant departing from a diff airport you arrived at].

then he will be flying back. that's what i was referring to. i was just sharing, in case he's not aware that terminal fee is prohibitive if he is flying [back] out of LHR.
