Hey, im 19. i started dressing more sensibly almost one year ago, and even though i now get compliments almost daily, i admit i still much to learn about fashion. (my wardrobe is quite limited, 6 button ups, 3 sweaters, 2 blazers, 4 slacks, 2 jeans, and some t's and polos..)

for those of you who dress in a modern, urban new york, 18-25 y/o style, im looking for your help to find a nice high-top black or dark brown shoe on a $130 budget. im intending to wear them casually, but something different from sneakers.
any suggestions are appreciated.

none of the following - clunky work boots or combat boots, western cowboy stitching, suede

any opinions on these?

You can get smooth leather chuck taylors that are quite nice, but that's probably not what you're looking for.

If you're in new york just go wander around west 8th street until you find something you like.

IMHO, not really into the ones you posted, something about the front of the toe just seems off, too square. Here are some ones I found online; Barneys Co Op

These are $150 on sale. Barneys Co Op

A little more dressy, but can be casual as well. $150 on sale as well. Really like the distressing on them. Banana Republic

$158 Banana Republic
br416693-00p01v01.jpg
$158 Clarks Desert Boot is always a good choice as well

These are a few options. There are plenty boots out there and there are plenty of sales going on everywhere right now.

it's only a matter of time until distressing on shoes is on par with that of denim!

That's a pair of typical disgusting askmen.com shoes. Go for a pair of chelsea boots.

I think they are used interchangeably but I am sure someone could give you (and me) a better explanation.

This is a chelsea boot:

It is what I would recommend, too.

Price range?

If you like the buckle look, but want to keep it on the classier side, check out these:

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/ca...759cat12530737

They are a bit on the pricier side. My suggestion, though, for a first boot would be to find the link for 50% off at ctshirts.com, and go for a pair of Chelseas from there.

i'm curious as to why you put specifically ankle boots for a college student. are you concerned about style as a college student or finance?

i guess the cool thing about "college" whether it's the university or age, you can experiment with whatever you want and no one would really say anything

I've been trying to find the link to no avail. Do you mind sharing it? They have some pretty nice boots there

Sorry, should have mentioned that the link is in the Men's Clothing forum. Just go there and do a search (or it could be in a sticky at the top).

Yea mainly I'm on a budget, and Im not looking for full size or long-lasting boots, not yet ready for those.

I'm still leaning towards the original pair...
1. theyre $80
2. the other boots that were listed are either to clunky for my style, or too elegant for my taste.
3. Yeaa i know theyre not round toe and rubber soles.. but haven't found any boots in this price range that aren't.

I've browsed ebay but probably wouldn't buy anything since most likely I wont be able to return ill-fitting shoes.
