Opinions on my canali suit

Just purchased a "used" canali suit on ebay.uk at a ridiculously low price.
I have never really experienced a high-end suit before this, and I was extremely impressed with the quality and the drape. the suit is practically new.
Here's the link to the actual auction.

With that said, I'm a size 37S, and this is a 38R.
If I have to wear this, I am going to have to take an inch off the sleeves. I am not sure if it is possible with the faux sleeve buttons. I guess a good tailor can shorten it from the shoulder instead, but I really don't want to ruin this beautiful suit. Don't mind the bump in the front pocket area, forgot to take out the cedar ball in there. Excuse the poor ironing.

Here's the pix

The pants fit like they were made for me, so issues there (not wearing the actual pants in the pics).

So my question is, should attempt to get it tailored and run the risk of messing up this gorgeous suit, or give up and the ebay it back (probably make $ doing it).

Thanx

Overall fit is not bad.

Sleeve can be shortened no problem despite faux buttonholes; in fact, this is bread and butter tailoring 101.

Try getting the chest and waist taken in a bit more too for a more flattering shape.

I bet somebody will say get the shoulders taken in too. I say leave it alone as it's major surgery and the fit is not bad.

I agree with Doc. The suit fits you fine and just needs some cheap work on the sleeves. You can take in the jacket but it is not necessary. It'll definitely make the suit a bit more flattering.

It is hard to find an eBay suit that still has a nice roll to the lapels as yours does since so many have been dry cleaned to hell.

I think the jacket looks fine but suggest you take another picture showing legs with torso to better judge the proportion of jacket length to trouser/ leg length and overall height. I'm a tween 37s - 37R and this is always my problem.

3/4 inch is the upper range for shortening the quarters before disfiguring the line and shape of the jacket......make sure an inch is OK on that garment.

Have the sleeves done and consider popping off 3/4" off the bottom and call it a day. Nice suit.

I like the suit, but if it was me I'd definitely do some waist suppression and take in the chest. No doubt about it.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
