I am currently considering this Tumi briefcase: http://www.tumi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11122039&prodFindSrc=search except in brown. Pictures of the actual item are below. I also looked at some Coach bags, but could not get a straight answer as to the type of leather, which leads me to believe it is not full-grain. The Tumi one is full-grain (according to the website). I am also considering this Saddleback leather case ( http://www.saddlebackleather.com/Classic-Briefcase-Thin?sc=8&category=83 ), but it may be a bit too rustic. I will be carrying it while wearing suits/sportcoats to an office environment. I do not need something that needs to go to the boardroom o courtroom.

Whichever briefcase you choose, do yourself a favor and carry it by the handle, and do not use the shoulder strap. Using the shoulder strap may be convenient, but it will damage your suit jackets, damage your shoulder and hip, change your posture, and also make you look like a schoolboy or like a woman carrying a purse.

Everytime someone mentions briefcases I think dark pinstripe suits, white shirts, bowlers hat and umbrellas

Well, the ones I am looking at probably aren't brief cases in the traditional sense (hard case with combination locks). For all intents and purposes, these are purses for men, but briefcase sounds so much better.
