Opinion on Versace sneakers?

Just recently bought a pair of sneakers from the Gianni Versace Couture line. Does anyone know about the quality of Versace or fashion designer sneakers?

They are from the Couture line, but the construction of the sneakers is no different than any others. Its just better leathers and the embroidery on the greek keys.

Don't really like that brass plaque thing on those sneakers. It's the kind of nonsense that's very popular here on coats, jackets and handbags.. Little brass plaques inscribed with words like Versace, D&G, CK, A&F, Emporio, Gucci, Fashion, Vogue, Style..

Actually the Greek Neo-Nazi Party has adopted a classical ancient Greek design.

It's certainly not a registered trademark or copyrighted. Probably Versace are using it because it looks nice.

Close...The short version of the long story is that Gianni Versace had gone to open his first store, and in the space where he was looking had the medusa on the front doors. He saw it when planning construction for his first store and fell in love with her power. As you know he was heavily influenced by both Greek and Roman mythology, and felt it was a sign, so he decided to use the medusa as his logo. He said she represented everything he wanted to exude to others - beauty, yet someone to be feared and respected. The Greek Key as you note, symbolizes immortality, and after his popularity grew at an exponential rate in 1992-1993, he began to feel limitless and added this to the medusa logo as part of the permanent design.

What you will notice is right before his death in 1997, he was diagnosed with inner ear cancer, maybe a year or two prior. For the first time, he did not feel invincible, he felt mortal. In the collections designed around then, the greek key had taken a back seat in terms of exposure in his designs. For some, this appeared to be just a design choice, but if you knew the history and meaning of his logos, prints, etc. It was quite telling of his mood around then.

What do I think of them now, or in the 80s? Of course they're terrible now, but I think he was a genius to do the strong shoulder and bold look - the complete opposite of what Armani was doing with the whole slouchy, Richard Gere nonsense.
