Opinion on these loafers

but I don't want to pay a lot. Tried Discostu's site, but the one pair I really like are too big (sorry, Lance). What do you think of these? I'd mainly be wearing them with lightweight, light colored cotton pants during the summer. I'd prefer a chestnut loafer with a leather sole, but I like the idea of chocoloate suede. Does the rubber sole on this make this loafer a poor choice? Magli suede loafer

I don't like the squareness of them. But then again, this is from a guy who only wears Bass Weejuns and Alden tassles....

You might want to try to find a lighter brown color for summer.

My thoughts exactly. I also agree that lighter brown is better, which is why I didn't simply pull the trigger on these. My ideal would actually have been the Vass U last loafers that were popping up on Ebay -- but they were out of my price range.

Agreed on the lighter shade and the square toe. I'm not crazy about the stitching either. STP did have some really good looking Magli driving mocs in a lite brown suede. I know you are not looking for driving mocs though.

Do you check ebay for Santoni - I see a lot of loafers from the midrange Goodyear welted line that would do nicely. Edit - this is the style I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....01&rd=1

The Santoni's would be a much better choice. Magli's construction has always appeared abit weak to me.

The rubber sole doesn't bother me as much as the color.

Love the Santonis -- I saw those as well. How does Santoni run? I wear 10.5 in English shoes, but can go 11 in a lot of Italian shoes.
