Opinion on a men's suit

5 foot 8 inches 150 lbs. I have to find the slip, however the tailor told me 40 R in a standard suit is my best fit due to my broad shoulders. I have to go more for a slim suit due to my frame. Otherwise the suits tend to hang off me. I will try to post a picture of me in a suit. The Abboud I picked up is a 38 regular, however this one seems to fit me quite well.

I just recently purchased this blue plaid suit from Joseph Abboud. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/joseph-...-suit/3190583?origin=category&resultback=4341 I was actually looking for a slim fit suit. I am a thin set individual who wears a 40R. The classic suits tend to hang on me. However the Joseph Abboud in 38 Reg fits quite well. I haven't altered the suit yet. I am thinking of returning it mainly because I seem to be having trouble matching shirts that would go with that suit. I was wondering if I could pick up a blue or navy slim solid suit for that price instead like the one shown in line below. http://www.gq.com/images/style/2012/01/ewan-mcgregor/ewan-mcgregor-02.jpg I need it for two weddings coming up. One of them will be down in Puerto Rico in April.

I really do not believe that you cannot find suitable shirts. A wealth of different shorts would match that suit. If it fits satisfactorily then put yourself to the trouble of getting the shirts - just go to a shop and choose.

You mentioned 39L? At 5'8 you should be nowhere near a "long" unless its some wild brand like Thom Browne that cuts ridiculously short. What was your actual chest measurement?

To give you a reference, I'm 5'7" and my weight will vary between 150-160lbs depending on circumstances. I have also been told that I have relatively broad shoulders; this is probably due to my rock hard and rippling, yet sensual, athletic build.

Ok, forget the last bit. But my point is that I'm a 38S, and I do have an athletic build. A 40R would be much too big on me; I really can't see it fitting you.

I made a mistake before, I have a grey sportscoat by Tallia Orange I bought from Macys Herald Square that is a 38L. It fits me perfectly. I have taken a few pictures in the Joseph Abboud I recently purchased. Like I said before there suits run a bit larger and 38R fits me fine in my opinion. Let me know what you guys think.

You are definitely a 38R. No long size needed. No size 40 either. Your shirt cuff needs to show. Wear a white shirt with that suit. Dark and neutral ties (check out the soporific tie Appreciation thread). You're welcome.

Looks good off the rack, no need to go up to a long size. I like the pattern, too. A nice, crisp white shirt and you are well on your way...

You have to remember that a suit that fits properly isn't going to feel the same as your regular street wear, especially if you're going for a slim look like the Ewan Mcgregor pic you referenced; it's going to feel more snug. This is one of the reasons why guys often think they are a larger size than they actually are. You're taller and lighter than me with longer arms; it just doesn't add up that you're going to be bigger in the chest and shoulders. And I wouldn't base the fit just on sleeve lengths alone either as that can be altered; and as already mentioned, you're supposed to show a bit of cuff anyways.

The jacket looks too big and is not cut nicely. As for sleeve length, you want some cuff to show and a tailor can usually lengthen the sleeves. In fact, your sleeves are too long in that photo.

I'm a 38L. This is what I look like in a fitted jacket. (Yes, the drop is a little more exaggerate due to the shoulders and tailoring done on the waist).
