I was very impressed. I love the look of old fashioned travel trunks whether they are for suits or shoes.
But I can only imagine the price! I emailed to ask the cost of the smaller boxes.

If they made one of these for aprotnoy, why do I get the sense it would be walk-in size; or maybe cargo container size.

These harken back to an era where people embraced luxury and weren't afraid to indulge themselves. These are closer to artwork than storage.

You might be able to purchase a small condominium in some towns for the cost of those trunks!

I suspect these are cheaper than Vuitton's trunks, which are about $40,000.

There's actually a fair niche market for these custom trunks; Vuitton said they refused an offer of a Japanese woman who wanted one specially fitted for her dining room china because it wasn't meant as a travel piece.

Well, that's the thing. Ephtee and companies like Pinel & Pinel (which makes a Bang & Olufsen stereo/CD library trunk) are producing trunks which are not designed for travel. In essence, they're beautiful set pieces. That said, at Goyard I saw some sort of crazy DJ trunk that would only be portable in the loosest sense of the word.

Yeah, because modern American culture is all about asceticism.

I wouldn't compare Ephtee and Goyard who are real artisans with Pinel & Pinel.
Pinel's trunks look like plastic!

Assouline had a collaboration with Goyard to produce this book trunk filled with their Memoire texts:

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
