Dear @L.deJong,

This is a very solid choice, enjoy your new suit in health!

Is your knit tie's shade that less than navy, or is it the light conditions of the photograph? Can you share details please?

Cheers,

Dimitris

Funny. I was looking at a picture online of the navy pick and pick and thinking that is probably what I should go for, but of course I will want to see the cloth itself before anything gets made!
Here is a close up of the cloth (in reality it's a darker):

It's an old Berg & Berg tie. Colour is pretty accurate.

Wanted to share my first experience with Richard Anderson's trunk show in San Francisco last weekend. Unfortunately, was too excited and did not take any pics during the measurement process. I ordered a pair of bespoke pants in cobalt cheviot wool and a MTM suit in a darker blue (not navy) also in cheviot wool - according to Krishan (sales person) - a very durable and wrinkle free fabric. Also, ordered a bespoke shirt in royal oxford (some kind of lighter blue). Wifey ordered a bespoke tweed jacket. Will update with more pics at the 1st actual fitting in September. Overall, it was a great experience and really liked the fit of the RTW suit the brought over for me to try on and see the house style.

Inside of a Draper's hopsack in works

View attachment 1180279

I'm getting a navy Drapers 5-star made up for my first bespoke suit and am super pumped, loved the fabric...is the hopsack fabric in the Ascot book or a book on its own? Is the hopsack still on the heavier side like 12/13oz?

I wish they had a better online presence to make it easier to explore the fabrics, like the Harrison/H Lesser site...

That is a great choice for a first suit. If it is being bench-made, then it will be enjoyable for the tailors.

The hopsack is from the Jacket and Solaire book. Drapers is not easy to find. Beware, while there is some design overlap with VBC, and they weave many Drapers cloths, it is not the same quality. The Hopsack is a great example of a difference in quality of yarns used between VBC for VBC and VBC for Drapers.

The hopsack is from the Jacket and Solaire book. Drapers is not easy to find, which I like and so do my clients. I have the complete Drapers set, as well as their Special Selection, Golden Selection and some vintage bolts that I have. Drapers is definitely my top seller. Beware, while there is some design overlap with VBC, and they weave many Drapers cloths, it is not the same quality. thanks, yes it is being bench made...i believe someone once told me that the VBC factory is owned by two families one who does the mainline stuff and another who does the drapers stuff, they can be similar shades but the 'recipe' and quality is different...i prefer the heavier fabric for drape so it was an easy choice

Drapers also have English made cloths as well don't they? Do you know which mills they use?

Care to provide a little more detail here about your thoughts on VBC? In my experience, VBC fabrics are wonderful and perform above their pricepoint. They do make a down market cloth that is typically what you see in fashion pieces, but that isnt what is sold to the trade. So in my experience, the difference is much less in VBC for VBC/ VBC for Drapers, its in VBC for RTW. But I'm interested in your experience.

I have nothing negative to say about them. They are just different, and consumers who can tell the difference will choose what they like.
