I already got my order. It just needs some tweaking which would be expensive for my tailor to do.

I would say close to a year.
Funny thing is, I bet you subsequent garments are faster because you can go straight to forward fitting and the pattern should be decent.

Problem is that I don’t plan on using him again. The process was too painful.

I have one suit from him that needs some tweaks. Not sure when he’s returning to NY and how many months it will take to turn around.

If you trust your local tailor to make the fixes, I would do that despite the cost. Get it now, be done with it and dont look back.
