I wonder if it would look better or worse if you had anything in the pockets? I always end up with stuff in those pockets.

Not sure.

You can see Mark's reversed patch pockets here. I think it's easier to see how the style might look in real life, as opposed a more stylized photo.

I'm curious if someone can get this swapped out for regular jetted pockets. Meaning, if someone gets this on tropical wool, can they get the reversed patch pocket removed and then just get regular pocket bags put in?

The technical expert at the other end of my sofa says it depends on how that inside-out patch pocket is made. If it's a complete, self-contained "bag" that's stitched onto the jacket front, then it could be changed. If it's a single layer (regular style patch pocket), then probably not.

That pocket on Douglas' suit looks weird to me I think due to the Neapolitan dart - I thought you were hallucinating as if it wasn't some type of proper patch pocket due to that vertical line. Then, I was wondering if it truly a patch job over a jetted pocket.

I am generally against things that make me squint trying to make my eyes resolve - no to fine herringbones, no to Solaro. Cho's pockets don't seem to induce this eyestrain due to the lack of the vertical dart = 1:0 Fiorentina:Napoli

The ? long front dart reminds me of some unlined Neapolitan jackets I have that look like that when I’ve had them made without patch pockets. It’s a result of there being no inner lining.

Other than novelty, what is the supposed advantage offered by this pocket design?

I was mostly interested in it because I was thinking of getting a brown Fox Air suit (same fabric that Douglas is wearing). I like the idea of jetted pockets on a suit, and then something just slightly more casual looking on a sport coat. Plan to wear the suit jacket as a sport coat.

Like Fresco, Fox Air is one of those fabrics that somewhere between proper suiting and jacketing. Not sure I want a patch pocketed Fox Air suit. But also not sure I want a jetted Fox Air sport coat.

Those are very interesting looking pockets and almost might allow me to get past my aversion to patch pockets. Something idiosyncratic that integrates something that I like, such as jetted pockets, will almost always draw my eye, even if it's derived from something that I'm not keen on. (It's not that I disdain the countryside, I just want it to stay away from me, which I happily reciprocate. The last 'country' thing I did was fly fish when I was a child... I caught no fish, but did catch my own foot) It's also a quite attractive color.

Fair enough. My two cents: The jetted openings dominate the visual impression, and the patch aspect is likely to be something that you notice and makes little impression on others.

Idea is when something is placed in the pocket it expands inward toward the body because the pocket “bag” is on the interior rather than putting something in a patch pocket sewn on the exterior side and expanding outward. This concept is why Oxxford makes the interior pocket bag in a bellows style. The pocket bag would expand inward against the body.
The bellows is more effective.

That makes sense. I’ll have to look more closely at my Oxxford!

It was a feature on their quarter/partially lined jackets.
I just remembered that my Oxxford has standard patch pockets. I guess it’s been a while since I wore it last...

I've never seen a bellows-style interior pocket, but I'm aware of an interior pocket construction that has what is essentially a "horizontal pleat", which absorbs the weight of added objects without straining the exterior cloth. Not sure what that's called, though. How do you make interior pockets?
