Hi John,

My earlier post was long time ago so price have changed now. USD 810 or approx VND 22 mil. for two pieces made from VBC books is the same price I got last year (as a local VNese and a long time client). So your quoted price is fair.

They are fully bespoke and will cut your own pattern, you could customize any anything you want. As a rule of thumb for first bespoke suit, please do not deviate too far away from the house’s style.

Negotiation is easier before when the shop only has a small customer base (especially during covid). Nowadays, with inflation and it is closer to the holiday, it is much much harder. You could try but ymmv. Quality wise, the negotiated price doesn’t impact the your suit.

I have been using service from Hanoi Peak for awhile so occasionally I could get some treat (like free shirt made or they could alter my RTW suit from other brands for free) but it is not guarantee.

Sir advantages are they have a more varieties of fabric and they have been in business longer than most bespoke shop in Hanoi. Meanwhile, they do charge higher price.

A note I usually share to anyone making suit in Vietnam is to let the shop know exactly when you need the suit to be completed beforehand so they could plan ahead with all the fitting session.
Hi Blacktaro,

Thank you for the very helpful response. I do have another quick question for you as a local.

1) Do you have any experience with bespoke shoes in Hanoi?

2) I will be traveling with my partner, and she would like to have some dresses made. Do you know any women's tailoring shops that have a good reputation for quality construction, materials and honesty? We both dislike poorly made garments because they look bad, wear out quickly, and harm the environment.

Thank you for your help so far!

Best,
John

Hi John,

1/ We have MTM shoes in Hanoi, in which the shoes will be fitted to each of your foot and the detail is fully customizable. For true bespoke shoes with your own last build, I am afraid there is no shop doing that I’ve heard of in Vietnam. We don’t have much last maker around the country and they prefer making lasts in batch for rtw collection rather than individual customer.

2/ Unfortunately, I don’t know much about custom womenswear here.

for custom womenswear I recommend Hoi An. Impressive turnaround times (48H), sadly the fabrics are of poorer quality.

Hi Blacktaro!

Would you say Hanoi Peak Bespoke makes a true bespoke suit? I was just quoted $860 for a S110 VBC full canvas two piece suit. I like the photos of their suits they have on instagram, but I struggle trying to differentiate a true bespoke shop from the plethora of MTM medium to low quality operation run in Hanoi / Hoi An / HCM. $860 is a price I am happy to pay, (and a bargain compared to western pricing) especially for a true bespoke suit.

Lastly, can Hanoi Peak Bespoke be completely trusted to act in my best interest? Or is it up to me to monitor and verify on my own? Do I get a "special price" as a foreigner. Am I expected to negotiate, or since they are a premium operation, the prices are set and that would be insulting. (or worse, result in me receiving a poorer quality suit to match the negotiated price.)

Finally, would Sir Tailor produce a superior product to Hanoi Peak, or are their higher prices reflective of the wool quality they are willing to work with?

Thank you for your advice.

John
Hi mate,
I'm Vietnamese and been trying and working with multiples tailor locally and I can tell you about this.
Hanoi Peak Bespoke is a reliable tailor house, they do make true bespoke but you have to ask. True bespoke in Hanoi now means fully-handmade. With the price of $860, I believe it's just equivalent to what you would get from MTM. The only thing that I don't like about them is the proportion of their pockets, way way to high.
And no, the price you got quoted is as much as a local would pay which is about 21 million dong. For a VBC suit that is true bespoke now I believe it's at around $1400-1500. They don't charge you differently my friend.
Sir tailor was good some years ago, now I feel like they are kinda lost, they focus more on RTW now.
I could recommend trusted tailors in Hanoi such as
1) Cao Duc Bespoke - English driven style. The owner is also your cutter and take care of all fittings. I believe his work is on the same level with any tailors in the Row. I know it's bold to claim that but please check his works. Price range: $1000-$2000 depending on fabrics
2) Pham Brothers - Sarto Quy - Italian/Korean blends. They launched their true bespoke program called " Another Line " a year ago and I was one of the first customers. Starting at: $1400
3) Antonio de Torres - very Italian. He's an American worked for multiples high-end brand in the US such as Gucci, trained as pattern maker in Japan. He no longer have a store in Hanoi but he comes for trunk show regularly now. Starting at about $1400
4) Klassic Orange - a young tailor with great taste. He adapted a lot of his styles from Korean tailors like Lucamuseo, Sartoria Soonhochoi,...From my perspective, his works gravitates toward total balance and styles, not as much handwork as those 3 tailors above but definitely worth an experience. Starting at $1000

Hi again,
1) There is a young bespoke shoemaker trained under Stefano Bemer and John Lobb academy. I believe he's the only properly trained shoemaker in Hanoi. His waiting list is quite long now but if you still keen to try in the future, let me know.
2) Tailoring for women is not as developed as it is for men. I don't think there is any tailor focus on womenwear. You could try asking Pham Brothers

This looks absolutely great. The fit is fantastic and it has just the right amount of character. I love the Sexton suits I've seen posted here and there. The jackets seem really strong, while still being wearable and comfortable. I just rewatched Argo yesterday on a flight and was admiring the suits and this gives me a similar impression.

I've settled on one-button opening for SB jackets.
