i spoke with a tailor and asked about her tailoring process for a sports jacket. I was really surprised that she only needed one fitting. She maintains that her shop uses expert local taiors. Here's her email:

Usually, the basted fitting gets ready within about a week and another 10 days for completion. Our usual turnaround to complete a suit order is 2-3 weeks. However, we also accept rush orders. On the basis that yours being a rush order, in your case, we may give you a basted fitting in a day and another 2 days to complete the suit. Or, if you want, after you get fitted, we can ship the final product to you via UPS if you can't stay for long. Whichever you choose is up to you. Also, upon your request, we will release our pattern to you. Let us know. Thank you.

Also, I asked for my own paper pattern, and she said that she can release it to me after my jacket is done.

What do you guys think? Anything that I should probe into?

I get a feeling that your user name answers your question.

I'd feel far more comfortable if she was using Master Tailors.

Right. Getting a coat in three days is easily doable. If she is pulling a person(s) into that coat only to get it done, she has the right to charge a premium. A coat is typically 15-25 hours work depending on the material, amount of hand work etc.

There a number of things to consider,

Does she cut a suit in the style you want, is there enough quality in the make and cloth to give value to the price, how will she deal with any fitting issues when it is complete?
Would the suit/results be better if more time was taken, resulting in me being happier?

Ask yourself, do I need a suit in a hurry or do I want a suit that meets my expectations for the long haul.

Just a couple things to consider.

This can be accomplished in this time frame and with only one fitting if she knows what she is doing and if what she does is what you want.

Asking for under $500.

The tailoring house is run by a Master Tailor.

I'm not sure whether I should do this or MTM with Southwick at CCC (considerably more expensive).

Does $500 exclude cloth?

I would ask to see one of her completed garments
(preferably worn by the person who it was made for)
before proceeding.

Guys: stop being all nice about this.

Here's the deal: For $500 for a full suit, with 1 fitting and completion in 3 days, you will get a CRAP, P-O-S, DISGUSTINGLY UGLY garment. That's all.

I'm not trying to be an ass, just hoping that you won't blow your hard-earned $$$ like some other members (like me) have in the past. The bit about the Mater Tailors was a silly joke.

I know other people who've done the "24hr bespoke" or "72hr bespoke" thing in various parts of the world. They've generally received an item with vague/generic but not terrible fit, and with mediocre but not terrible construction. They've also generally paid a LOT less than $500, so were generally accepting of that equation. Some have repeated the experience since the equation represented value for them, most have not.

Agreed, I would definitely ask to see one of her completed works. I'm actually interested myself of this quick process. If you could get some pics of her work, it would be good to see the quality.
