Hi everyone,

I'll be visiting Naples soon with effectively only one day to do any real shopping. I know bespoke tailoring requires multiple visits and takes time, so that's off the table, however Im curious if there are recommendations for menswear shopping that's worth it for only a day? Maybe quality shirting I can buy that's not bespoke that I can take home and get tailored?
Thanks in advance for the recommendations!

I would rather recommend to stick to visiting. I was there for 9 days, but Napoli has many attractions, wasn't able to visit all the interesting places in the city and the surroundings. Not enough time either for any shirt commissioning (without a prior appointment), so I went through the shops on via Toledo but discovered most of their offer is a rather common RTW. The shirts in the shop window looked good but on closer inspection the quality of the work was mediocre - loose threads, non-symmetrical stripes on collars, skimpy collar points etc. I quit shopping and spent the day flaning up and down via Toledo, stopping for espresso and sweets in the cafes, rummaging through the antique shops behind Port'Alba.

On the other hand, on via Chiaia the shirts jump to 350 - 390 Eur. Very good cut, cloth and work, but when buying off the counter there is a very slim chance of a good personalised fit, you'll have to butcher the shirts anyway at an alterationist. So neither end of the range led to value. I plan for my next trip to Napoli to arrange some appointments in advance, maybe I'll be able to squeeze measuring and first fit in one week.

Have a nice trip there!

It is worth paying a visit to Antonio Meccariello too, if you fancy his style.
I have not bought anything from him, yet, but his shoes have eulogistic reviews, mainly because he would offer one the best value for the price, plus you can choose your patina for most of his shoes.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
