I own no loafers, but I'm ready to get a pair now. What is your favorite, most versatile loafer?

No faux-laced side gore cleverleys
No tassels

I think I prefer high vamp to low vamp. Is low vamp more classic?
I think I prefer half-strap to full strap. ""
English or American?
Is there a classic EG loafer with the pig bristle apron?
My first inclination is something like:

The three best loafers, IMHO, are:

- JM Weston 180
- C&J Sydney
- Gucci bit loafer

For me it's the trad burgundy high vamp beefroll. I have worn Weejuns since highschool and just recently got a pair of AE Kenwood. They look great with jeans, khakis, shorts...whatever. Corrected grain is fine in wet weather so basically they are my "beater" loafers.

That said, my RL Redway tassels are my current favorite, but they are less versatile and too damn pretty to not take care of.

I gotta say, I like the beef roll myself. Probably not group-think here but that's fine with me.

You could do something like the Carmina loafer that The Armoury sells. I also love my sloops from Will.

not a fan of split-toe either but these look great. Acecow, did you decide on keeping these bad boys?

Thanks. Same here. I wasn't a fan of split-toe until I've seen these. The stitching is so subtle, it adds character without making the shoes look too busy.

I decided to keep them, because nobody bought them. It's OK, the fit was very close and I already stretched them, so now they fit just fine.
