Burl Ives Lives!

Seems confident in his own sense of style, so he makes it work for him. The black shoes are really disappointing, though.

Like the unique way he tucks in his pocket square. Not sure how I feel about the really high fastening three button suit. I guess it kind of evokes images of the sacque suit in my head, but with more modern day neckwear and shirts. The overall feeling is that he's an approachable person, however, which is good.

I dont think there's anything wrong with his choice of black shoes. There's definitely a SF groupthink that black shoes=bad, but a nicely polished well made/designed black shoe looks very smart imo.

Not bad, just disappointing. I'm not one of those who have a problem with black shoes, but this guy's clearly got a bit of the dandy in him, so to see him wearing black shoes with, of all things, a black suit is disappointing. From the pocket square up, he's interesting if nothing else; from there down, he's completely bland.

And I, personally, would never wear ANYTHING but black shoes with a black suit, so so much for 'groupthink'.

I don'[t think it is groupthink. I also have black shoes but brown shoes can have so much more character and the patina you can get looks a lot more interesting. Black is a safe bet usually but not that interesting.

This is clearly a man with something to hide. If the voluminous, dark high gorge suit, hat, and shades didn't make it obvious, the beard does. I can barely see person in that photo. He's like a damned muppet.

You have a point there. He is completely covered.

Oh I don't disagree that they can potentially be interesting. I know that sounded like a blanket statement on my part but I think I am too enamoured with patina nowadays. The perils of watching the shoe pr0n threads

Who doesn't love a patina? But black suits/trousers usually look best with black shoes. Of course, there are exceptions...............

Oooh, I LIKE those. I'll be damned if I have shoes coloured like something swiped from Prince's warddrobe, I still like those

As much as I loooooooove the depth and richness of browns and tans, I find your statement absolutely correct. The way I look at it, browns and black just have different "duties," if you will. I mean aesthetic duties, not wardrobe duties.
