I think that it's relatively easy to do two bold patterns with a lot of contrast, and a third with a more subdued pattern, as F. Corbera shows twice and RJE shows once, but three bold patterns (I don't count pocket squares - if you can do a forth bold pattern with pants, you are a pretty proficient) is next level. That, or you look like a Pitti Uomo/street blogger casualty.
I think that I need to Frontpage this thread so that more people can learn something.
Hey, you realise that except for the herringbone jacket, my examples are all suits?
this is the kind of post that is helpful in a thread like this. I don't agree that I was 0 for 3 but realize that my wardrobe is not set up for multiple pattern wearing. But it serves as a starting point and you've expanded on it with this post and O/O and vox are expanding on it so I think people can look at these pics and thoughts and say "I have a similar jacket and I never thought to pair it with that pattern shirt/tie" or vice versa. Talking about scale, color coordination, textures etc is fine, but dissecting pics is much better. this is not for everyone. I wouldn't wear most of the combo's displayed here. I only go as far as a loud jacket, no loud shirts or ties for me or squares. But since the purpose of SF is to discuss clothing and since there are different styles of dress, I thought that this bolder style deserved a thread.
I expect a byline.
That's intense. Yet somehow, the square looks forced enough that it takes attention away from everything else. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing...
How shall the summer arise in joy,
Or the summer fruits appear?
Or how shall we gather what griefs destroy,
Or bless the mellowing year,
When the blasts of winter appear?
Left coast Matt:
You've captured my philosphy perfectly:
This is a nice sweater vest but as a tie, I don't know ...
Speaking of patterns: is there a reason behind SF's general aversion to (pin/chalk/rope) striped suits? o/o is the only member I can think of atm who regularly posts outfits that include striped suits...
