Why the hell design /aesthetics gets lost just because a company tries to make an energy efficient car is beyond me. It's like they send the design team home for the evening and bring in the interns to do the styling. It just can't be that hard to put a visually appealing shape to a car, but they keep dumping these blobs on us. Aesthetically this is about the same as an AMC Pacer; perhaps the designer was young and didn't remember that **** the first time around.

I kinda like it!

I wonder what the performance is like? If it could compete with the new Honda CRZ, with AM luxury, it might do ok at that price point.

Maybe it has little to do with green and a lot to do with market-share.

I was just in Paris and the average sized car there was a Mini Cooper. Many, many cars were quite a bit smaller. AM is trying to tap into the luxury sub-compact market that it expects exist, and may. Why Americans would take such offense, heaven knows.

But a Mini Cooper is a... well, Mini Cooper. This might work in China where they don't know better yet, but it just doesn't work anywhere else, period.

Whu? Is there supposed to be an ironic wink there?

The Mini's proved to be extremely popular, including in the US. As said, it was the average sized car in Paris, with many other makes similarly sized. Smaller cars were everywhere and not in the slightest bit unique. Not surprising that someone wants to expand their market share.

If you weren't meaning to be ironic, your attitude is about 30 years out of date and why Detroit is on its last legs.

Nah. Just down to bad reading on your part. A Mini Cooper doesn't have to be anything other than a Mini Cooper. I'm just saying that this - if it's real, I still don't quite believe it - cynical and badly-placed marketing exercise would only work in relatively unsophisticated (as of now) markets.

It will make money. Aston isn't a stately British car maker anymore, they are just another cog in a money making machine.
