Ok, why can’t Ford make a car like this?

http://www.dancewithshadows.com/auto...is-photo-1.asp I mean, seriously? Sure, a production car would have conventional doors, and a more-normal interior, and remove the LED’s in favor of conventional lights. But why couldn’t they make a car that looks exactly like that? WHY? Jon.

Maybe they will. Remember that the design bosses at Ford today are the people who guided the VW New Beetle, Audi TT, and Chrysler 300 to fruition. And all of the good (i.e. pre-horsecollar/chrome front bib) VWs and Audis of the last decade.

One has to imagine that Ford didn't spend the bucks to get Mays and Thomas back together again only to throttle them.

Of course, if Ford does make it, then like their equally excellent current Mondeo it'll not be for American consumption...

The Audi shield grill is awesome! Its much better than the complete lack of direction Audi used to have. The VW's look bad with the chrome fronts and faux-Audi shield grill. They should stop copying Audi's design and come up with something different.

Regarding Ford, they will never come out with a car that looks like this. It would be great if they did, but they never will. Seriously, if you saw that car on the road, you would do a double take.

I think it would look very nice if they cleaned up the edges a bit and made the interior look like it wasn't designed by a 12 year old.

Old Audis were classy looking. New Audis are gaudy and nouveaux-riche looking. Perfect for southern Florida....

Also, if Mays and Thomas, who after all developed the last attractive VWs and Audis, do riffs on those same silhouettes for Ford, are they "copying" or "evolving"?

American cars are really crudely made, which is a superlative statement concerning that all modern cars are more or less kind of plastic-looking.

Strong words coming from a person who doesn’t state where he / she (it is the internet after all) is located…Also, we all ready know what you think is a good looking car, and that modern cars are in your eyes, taboo. Jon. Oh, and its South Florida, not “southern Florida” interestingly you insult a place and yet don’t even know what it’s properly called. Jon.

first, that car looks like a rebadged aston martin.

second, no one would pay good money for a ford. if they do build that car, they'll sell it as a lincoln, jaguar, etc...

Sure, a production car would have conventional doors, and a more-normal interior, and remove the LED's in favor of conventional lights.
third, if they do choose to make it, why wouldn't they include the cool doors, interior, and LEDs?

people either like a design or they don't. i don't see why concept cars can't make it to market 'as is'.

Ford is in the business of selling mass-produced cars. This is not something that fits their brand. If they ever build an awesome car, i.e. the GT, they'd do it to make a point, not to make money. Given the financial shape the company is in, it just wouldn't make sense to spend a huge amount of money to make something like this. It's better that they throw the design to Aston or Jaguar. Keep in mind, there's a huge difference between BMW, Audi, and Ford and GM. The latter two are not in the business of making highline cars.

Exactly, I was going to make a similar post.

They simply do not cater to the types that appreciate design and function.

Those consumers turn to higher-end European and Japanese makers.

Ford/Chevy/Dodge mainly try to produce cars that look alright to the majority of consumers, and offend as few as possible. Sure, there are some exceptions, such as the 300C or the PT Cruiser that differ from the norm and sell exceptionally well. But think about past attempts that have failed, such as the Pontiac Aztek.

If the "brand" is trying to sell mass produced ugly cars, that might explain why the company is in that financial situation.

You're assumptions do not equate. You don't want the car to be expensive, because no one will pay "˜good' money for a Ford (contrary to the fact that the Ford GT sold like hotcakes), yet you want them to include the upwards-opening doors (impractical and expensive), LEDS (expensive and not easy to find replacements; at least at this moment), and the interior (which, with all its metal trim is expensive and really doesn't look all that comfortable).

I see no reason why Ford can't make a car that looks just like this, with the same dimensions as the Ford Fusion, but using normal lights, normal doors, and a normal interior. Utilizing a 4-Cylinder and a V6 as available power plants, plus either RWD or AWD and placing the engine behind the wheels. Seriously, if they make it the right way (a-la Honda or Toyota) I see no reason why a car like that can't be a success.

Jon.
