Hello, is it possible to lengthen suit jacket sleeves only? I've read conflicting opinions on this in other threads.

I recently found what I think is a nice deal on a Valentino Roma suit but it's not available in long. I usually wear a 42L, but sometimes (rarely) can get away with a 42R depending on the designer.

The suit is great but I need about another inch in the sleeves. I'm ok with the body length. The coat does have non-working buttons on the sleeves, which I'm guessing can't be moved because of the faux button holes.

There is about 2" of extra material on the inside of the cuff on the sleeve. My question is, is this even worthwhile? Best case I think I'll end up with an extra inch of material between the last button and bottom of the cuff. Probably not noticeable, but I could be wrong.

Would going with a 44 and having the body tailored in be any better? I'm guessing the sleeves would be slightly longer in a 44.

By the way, the deal is still available here, Valentino Roma for $299:

Thanks for any comments,

Yes, you can lengthen them. You can move a button to make it less noticeable as well. Faux button stitching can be removed carefully. I have seen it done where it is not noticeable at all.

^^ correct. As long as the button holes aren't functional, and there is extra fabric, it's quite easy to lengthen a sleeve. If, however, the button holes are functional it may or may not be possible as it has to be done from the sleeve head. If it can be done, it's expensive.

It will be very simple to lengthen the sleeves one inch. The imitation buttonholes and buttons can be moved down.

DO NOT buy a 44 to get longer sleeves.

No- the sleeve length typically does not grade from size to size- it only changes for shorts, longs, etc.

You can't lengthen a sleeve from the top, only shorten.
