OK not to iron casual shirts?

I like wearing casual shirts (over white undershirts). This combines, to my mind, practicality with visual appropriateness. My sin is that I seldom iron my informal shirts. One could probably notice it only when being told, but still. Is this wrong? Any opinions? (This might seem trivial, but my composure depends on fixing the habit, if necessary.)

I think it's fine and can even be a style for you, but it has to be balanced with other "less pressed" pant fabrics, like jeans or khakis - or even wool trousers that aren't too fancy. Fancy wool suit pants and an un-ironed shirt could look haphazard. I haven't ironed in years, but I wear jeans almost daily. Out of the washer, I tug on the seams of my shirts to make the seams more flat, then hang to dry - it works well for me.

Go for non-iron fabrics if you're not into ironing, or get yourself a steamer which you can do while the shirt is on a hanger.

Depends on whether you tuck them. If you do, they should be ironed. That said, I think an untucked shirt--unless meant to be worn that-- looks sloppy. If it is wrinkled, even more so.

If you are comfortable looking slovenly, disheveled, grungy, sloppy and unkept, it's perfectly acceptable. Just saying.

You’re asking the wrong question. Given that it is currently “ok” to wear cargo shorts and sandals almost everywhere, wrinkled shirts don’t even qualify as a misdemeanor.

The more salient question is if it’s ok with you.

I iron all my shirts, even the one I wear to change the oil in my Vespa. Because it makes me feel better. And because someone might see me.

That's the right answer.

This morning, as I was within minutes of walking out of the house and brushing my teeth, I looked in the mirror a last time realized that my shirt was wrinkled. I took out my ironing board, turned on the iron, took off my shirt, ironed my shirt, put shirt back on, put iron away, put ironing board away and walked out the door. This added somewhere between 90-120 seconds to my day. It is such a small inconvenience to iron a shirt before leaving the house, and those that know that is it such a small inconvenience also know that you would rather be in a wrinkled shirt than spend 90 seconds to fix it before you went out. It makes an impact.

Unless crinkles/wrinkles are part of the design to create a casual relaxed feel, taking care of your casual shirts can not only upgrade your look, but also positively reflect your personal style.

I use a portable steamer to freshen up my casual shirts, which is quick and easy.
