Ok, I give up: Why is Kiton so expensive?

I have to put my 2 cents in here... I think it has more to do with advertising and programming than anything else. Certain brands have achieved a level of "panache" that others haven't, and the average person believes that:
A) If it costs more it's worth more
B) Names impress people
C) Money is power

If people believe that something is worth X amount, they'll pay it. If they don't....well... I kind of get the price of Kiton, but I've never understood why people pay for Boss...

The bottom line is that when you're spending that kind of money, you should be doing so because it makes you happy or feel better, not because of the label. I have a closet full of Pal Zileri, not because of the label per se, but because they fit me very well off the rack, and my wife thinks I look sexier in them than any of my other suits.... Just wish she's stop ripping them off my body!

Perhaps that is not the reason. Perhaps she is trying to throw them away.

It happened to dopey.

I'm sure Gurkhas arent the worlds best cigars but I'm sure there are a few people proud to be smoking $1,150 cigars.

I would love some data on the production costs for a particular company to make a particular item of clothing. Of course, I doubt a company would provide this information.

I think LV was quoted at around 35% profit margin. Thats alot for a business model but it's not as much as I expected.

That's probably their operating margin. Wouldn't surprise me if that's the case...I am sure they spend tons and tons on advertising. Would expect the gross margin of their goods to be WAY higher though.

This was in a strategic marketing class so you are probably correct.

This must be marketing outside the U.S. because i notice ZERO kiton marketing, generally, except in the few stores that actually carry it. Maybe I've seen an ad or two, but that's it. But then again, I don't read Robb Report.

Think they were referring to LV's marketing and not Kiton

I also got my wardrobe plenty of Pal Zileri shirts and suits. It´s the most neapolitan cut of a non neapolitan based brand.

kiton is the italian corruption of chitone, which is greek for a robe like tunic

You are factually correct, but what does that have to do with how the Italians and the company pronounce its name?

This freakin' thread has been and can be done with any luxury brand out there. But I guess to many it never gets old.

Really, no value proposition? So when you purchase a house, car, etc., you don't look for value? No dickering on the price for you. Just pay the asking price. I guess I have it all backwards. Everyone should just pay exorbitant prices for everything regardless of the value. I have a bridge I will sell you.

Why late last week I made offers on five houses. My offer for each was well below the asking price ... and I got four out of the five!

Because theyr Brand stands for Luxury and Craftmansship !
For example Suits start at about 4500 and those who are tailored for you enter at about 8500 and go up to 50`000 for the K50`s

If you know about Suits, Kiton is something to admire and like a dream to get one :)
