I'm currently looking for some good boots (of a style which may or may not have a name) and keep coming across threads that picture great boots without identifying them. i.e.

which I discovered here:

In addition, in trying identify a couple of those, I came across the Alden Roy boot, which is pretty amazing

& the Wolverine 1000-mile boot

Does anyone know of any similar, possibly cheaper boots of the sort?

LL Bean's Katahadin Boots or Red Wing Iron rangers should fit the bill. I have had several pairs of the LL Bean boots and love them. Obenauf's leather treatment smooths them out and gives them more of a broken-in oiled look rather than a newbuck look. I bought my last pair from Ebay new for $50. Good luck in your search! http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/49464?from=SR&feat=sr
