    So general consensus is:

Midnight & Navy Grenadine is a beautiful tie but doesn't go with the suit and shirt in a wedding context.

Glen Plaid would be perfect but should be paired with a white shirt. (though it looks like the swatch is a little darker than the shirt, maybe not significantly so though)

    Hence neither choice is ideal?

    Back to the drawing board.
I guess I could try and switch to a white shirt but I doubt I have time for mtm and I might get in trouble for ditching the expensive shirt last minute.

    or

take recommendations? I am in Australia (not Sydney/Melbourne) and have 3 weeks until the wedding so I need to order something online now. I was hoping to get everything from Sam Hober since they appear to have impeccable customer service and claim a construction and delivery time of under 2 weeks. I must say I have an aversion to silver ties. If anyone wants to chime in on recommendations one what they think would work given the constraints it would be great.

Have you considered yellow/gold, or burgundy?

I would just get a white shirt, you will have use for both shirts in the future, but the one you currently have, although not ideal, could still work.
The ties of mine I have posted are either silver/blue or white/blue combos, which i see as ideal in your colour scheme.

+1. The grey plaid tie is fine with a really light blue shirt. A white shirt would be better though.

Agreed, the pic that you posted, ovlov, makes the shirt look light enough that I think it could still look nice with the glen plaid. I also agree, having one myself, that the glen plaid is quite versatile and I think you'll get good use out of it after the wedding.

Best of luck! I'm going to be wearing a similar ensemble as you, so hope that it all works out.

Got some preview pics from the photographer. This is the best shot of what I wore. JPG compression is nasty, though.

^ Very slick -- nice job and congratulations!

Yesterday evening I was asked by a dear friend to ush at her April wedding (now that it's legal in our state). Her second question: "are you okay with renting a brown tuxedo?"

Since I have at least a passing familiarity with gracious behavior, it wasn't the time to evangelize about what is and is not appropriate in menswear. I will probably not, however, be posting any photos of the forthcoming getup (on this thread or elsewhere).

Oh...ouch....I would say "You will look like shit" but that would be cruel considering the shade....

You have to at least show us the catalog shot!

Thanks for all the advice guys.
I am getting a new white shirt now.

I am now of the opinion that based on your advice and what I really want for a more classic look, I should be getting a lighter grey PoW tie. Personal preference is that I would like a 7 fold.

Sadly Sam Hober doesn't have anything like this at the moment.

Can anyone suggest somewhere I can source an extra long grey 7 fold PoW ?

My size makes it quite a bit more difficult since ideally i'd go about a 3.7x64" tie

I love E Marinella but I can't even find pics of their wedding ties online (otherwise I could get a friend to pick one up from the Tokyo store though there might be some length issues there).

    Ok round 3...
How about these? light enough? Wedding-y enough? The middle is obviously lightest and quite simple but not sure if it classifies as wedding appropriate.

Actually now that I am posting it on this computer the PoW looks about as dark as the previous example... I'll try and get another pic from the vendor.

btw- Culverwood & ors. the fiancee actually didn't like the grenadine. She thought I was showing it to her as an option for a groomsman as she thought I was already set on the PoW (though she doesn't like the first one too much as it was "too scratchy"

From my wedding in November. In hindsight a darker grey tie would've been nice but from memory I couldn't find any charcoal grenadine on Kent Wang or Hober at the time. Did I do ok?

Oh and I felt like a muppet and re-tied my tie after I realised it was too long and poking out the bottom :(

I'm getting married this coming August and am trying to find some amazing shoes to go with my suit. It's going to be a very casual outdoor wedding on my in-laws' property on Vancouver Island. Because we're planning for heat and a laid back vibe, I purchased an indigo seersucker suit by Ovadia and Sons last SS:

The suit was only available at one retailer (Ikkon), and when it arrived I was surprised to find that the buttons weren't black as depicted, but white. I emailed the brand about it and it turned out that the sample was made with black buttons, but when it went into production they decided to go with white buttons. I still really like the buttons in white, and feel that they make the suit more unique (I couldn't find another indigo suit done with white buttons anywhere).

When it came down to shoes, I was hoping to wear my black plain toe cordovan oxfords by Moto.
    [IMG] [IMG]
However, when I tried them on with the suit, something about them didn't quite work. Had the buttons been black, I think they would work no problem, but because they're white, something about the black oxfords looks off.

I've since become obsessed with these brown cordovan wing tips by Moto, and I'm wondering if others think they would complement the suit better, keeping in mind the white buttons on the suit.

I'm really hoping that the brown cordovan wing tips will work, but would appreciate any voices of reason if it sounds like it may be wishful thinking.

Seconded. When something only exists in one place, consider carefully why no one has copied it.

As you are on Vancouver Island, test assured that you will look better than everyone else. My sister had a church wedding on the island, with a formal reception, and chinos, shirt, no tie, was a common look among guests.
