Interesting link, I had not seen that post before, and I am a fairly avid follower of Will's blog.

Despite the provenance of the cream silk shirt as formalwear, I feel like it would have to be done right to be effective. A cream or ecru shirt on the cheap would probably not turn out as well as a simple white shirt.

Very debonair and dapper....but the fit tells me it's a rental!

In my most humble of opinions, it is definitely NOT a rental.

It's definitely not skin-tight-#menswear fit but classic fit pants does not equate rental.

BB RTW morning coat btw, and I am definitely not a small/skinny human being.

Hey-I said you looked very dapper and debonair. The fit opinions are the kind of things only a Style Forum member would detect. I think the cut of the coat and waistcoat make you look very trim and fit. I would have liked the pants a bit less full and without so much break...maybe hemmed another half-inch.

Ok..and frankly, I would have preferred a Half-Windsor knot too...

Yup those details are personal choices. Not that the pants don't fit; it fits perfect at waist with proper rise. But it's not for everyone's taste. At least for me if anything trimmer they wouldn't support my upper body girth.

Dark suits of various colors, white shirt, dark colored ties. All of them wore their own suits.

All that page says is that someone out there makes cream silk evening shirts; by that logic, everything available to wear is good style :p

But I think the primary point there was that silk is correct, and that the particular silk they're talking about can't be dyed/bleached white. A cream or ivory cotton shirt is still entirely out of place for black tie.

I will be a guest at a wedding on Labor Day weekend. It's on Sunday at 6pm. I am 98% sure it will not be formal, although the setting is a fancy hotel. I know I will be wearing a white shirt and black shoes. I have a couple ties in mind. I guess I should go with a charcoal or light grey suit? Maybe I answered my own concerns?

I'd go with a medium to dark grey myself. I love light grey in the summer myself but for an event that starts at 6:00PM, I'd put on the dark suit. White shirt and black shoes are both are a good plan.
