I see.

Does anybody here own a Brigg umbrella? Does it have these marks?

It's a bit difficult if the company says "this is not faults, these are features, and are present on all our umbrellas". But if someone here can tell me that they have a Brigg, without these marks or wrinkles, it would probably help my argument with the company.

In my mind, when the umbrella is delivered 6 months too late (estimated was 6-8 weeks), without ANY unsolicited updates, the quality control should have been extra meticulous. This, in addition to the flaws (if they really are flaws), IMO should warrant a new umbrella being made and shipped to me, free of charge. That is what I'd believe a lot of other companies with good customer service would have done.

In stead, I'm guessing they'll want me to take time and cost out of my day to package the umbrella and ship it back (probably on my expence at least one of the ways) for repair.. But we'll see.

i'd put my foot down and stand my ground - these are faults, unacceptable, have it back and refund my money, cover the cost of returning it too.

finding another brigg won't help. it may or may not be flawed in the same way. that yours does have faults, cost a lot, and in no way represents something vastly complicated that can't be produced better - it's not a car or a wristwatch for example - is just flat out wrong.

their line is intended to be immovable, unexplainable or impossible to dismiss. if they too it back, it's likely scrap. they need customers to have varying tolerances of what they make, and it doesn't mean you have to be one to accept a poorer example than could be found elsewhere.

here's my experience with heurtault. arrives with damage to the stick from the canopy tips. £660 to buy. i have (and had) london undercover umbrellas bought at £65. ten percent of the cost. also solid stick (but not as strong, substantial) and also made by hand. no marks on them. some of those i have had many years, still no marks to this day. none when bought. for ten - per - cent of the cost.

and heurtault says, "monsieur, you do not understand ze umbrella".

it went straight back.

never again.

My Brigg doesn't have the marks on the tip but it is over 15 years old so may not be a great comparator... I wouldn't be happy though if I bought one now and it had those marks......

Severe winds gusting to 50mph or more and heavy rain this morning in Brighton. Not sure which of my umbrellas to risk on my 20minute walk to the office. Will need my waterproof raincoat and boots too in case it's too wild to keep the umbrella under control.... Not a day for my fedora but I may wear a beret.....

Wild evening in Brighton tonight... Rain coming sideways on fierce gusts blew my James Smith gents walking umbrella inside out three times as I was coming home from a friend's house and I had to close it because it really felt as though even the super-strong Swiss frame might break... Drenched when I got home and the forecast for tomorrow is even worse with 60mph gusts. Getting to the office will be a challenge!!!

Another day for style over practicality today. Managed to avoid the rain this morning walking to the office but it's now blowing at 50-60mph with torrential downpours. Will try to miss the rain on the way home as well but otherwise it's my Burberry trench, long black boots, and seeing if my Brigg solid stick umbrella can survive the weather.....🤞🙏 I didn't bother with a hat today because trying to cope with a hat as well as a brolly in this sort of weather is pretty much impossible......

Lashing rain and storm force winds with gusts to over 60mph as I was going home but my "death grip" on the Brigg solid stick brolly, holding it half way up the shaft with one hand and right in between the ribs with the other, managed to just about keep it under control even though it was being blown wildly from side to side. A couple of times I had to half close it to relax the pressure the wind was putting on the frame. My Burberry was soaked from the waist down and thank goodness I was wearing boots, but the #stormproof Brigg protected my hair and makeup, and the top half of my mac. Not really safe to be using an umbrella in Brighton this afternoon and early evening, and the bins were full of discarded umbrellas, but my Brigg saw me safely through the storm.

Does anyone know the going price of a maglia in Milan or a talarico in Napoli? I’m thinking of stopping by.

im ~6 feet though, and have 2 maglias & a fox (recently sold 2 unused with tags maglias). Would it be worth it for someone of very average height like me to go for a bespoke umbrella?

Just received a beautiful Francesco Maglia umbrella from Mr. P. However, there is a large knot on the wooden handle as per pic below. Do you think this is acceptable and would it compromise the integrity of the handle given the location of the knot? Should I return it?

A hole in any material weakens it, that’s physics.

It is wood. Knots add character. Unless you intend jacking up the car to change a tyre, I suspect you will be fine.

Yes and if you know anything about wood you would know that a wood knot generally weakens the wood
i would send back.

my brother works with wood, has done for 40 years. he would discard it. lots of wastage in wood.
