I think I might have finally found the best ingredients for shortbread cookies. Superfine granulated sugar was needlessly hard to find around here, but the pastry flour made the biggest difference.

Save your money and put sugar in a food processor or blender

Like you need help cutting the cheese.

In sport’s, you always here about how a player is one thing away from being great. With pitchers it’s “if he can add a solid breaking pitch” in basketball, “if he can hit the three consistently” etc etc. With you, it’s the opposite. If only you could make one less post consistently, you would be a normal poster. But you always go overboard by at least one post.

Honestly I hated falafel until I made my own. Its so much better than most restaurant/food truck crap.

I know of a couple of good sources around San Jose, but generally homemade is better.

Most falafel I’ve had has always been over cooked. I can’t think of a time where I got falafel and thought it wasn’t over cooked.

One thing about the Detroit area, particularly in Dearborn, is middle eastern food there rocks. Amirite @Marc Voorhees and @Michigan Planner ?

I've never actually been a big fan of most Middle Eastern food (I stick to shawarma on most trips), but yes, definitely some great options. They do have some great Middle Eastern bakeries in the area, but I might just be a ***** who won't turn down any pastry.

My favorite Middle Eastern place is actually closer to me, here in Birmingham: Phoenicia. Their beef ribs are some of the best I've ever had and one of the few places where I'll order beef ribs.

@Texasmade - as far as falafel goes, most places do seem to overcook it.

The very first episode of the PBS show No Passport Required was all about Middle Eastern food here in Metro Detroit. I can't seem to find it streaming on the PBS site, but if you happen to see it available somewhere, it's worth checking out.

Lamb shawarma sandwich in fresh oven bread with those spicy pickles = heaven. In the 90s I could hoover three or four of those after a century ride.
