Those look great!
What is the corn thing you made? Elote?
It looks like corn to me, is it something else?

One of my little semi-homemade cheats. It's Mahatma spicy yellow rice and then I add in diced and sautéed veggies. I just packed it into a small bowl to form it into a mound for plating.

This is from a few nights ago, maitake au vin. Definitely more trouble than I go through for a normal meal, but it was fun.

I bet it’s tasty, but that kind of looks like the aftermath of a bird crashing through a tree and getting partially eaten by a bobcat.

So the more recent batch of recipes from home chef were less exciting.

They weren't bad or anything, but no recipe I'd really care to save and recreate on my own like in my first batch. It seems pretty clear that their driving focus is about prep speed and simplicity. One of the dishes literally came with a bag of pre-cooked pasta--admittedly, it was from the "15 minute meals" section of the menu, but...wtf?

They all seemed like they were missing something--like you could really use a grain, which could easily be a simple boil-season-serve mix, but in their quest to not dirty 1 more pot and fit the directions into 6 total steps, they left it out.

My recollection is that Hello Fresh meals were a little more fleshed out--3 items on a plate, more ingredients in a bowl, etc.--but I always felt like their actual ingredient quality was low.

NYT recipe for pasta with blended leeks. Sort of bland at first and then i added pecorino and garlic and it got better. Then i asked myself WTF is the purpose of the leeks? The fried leeks for garnish were tasy though and added crunch.

I went to the grocery store tonight and spent $125. $100 was alcohol.

I’m imagining you stocking up on generic Pop-Tarts and top ramen to go with your $100 bottle of Scotch.

By styleforum standards, I'm a teetotaler. Plus, in this shithole state, grocery stores aren't allowed to sell hard liquor. I picked up a bunch of wine and a couple cases of beer primarily for cooking. They had a bunch of (by pio and OM standards undrinkable wine) bottles on pretty significant sale. I also hate pop tarts.

Sorry to ruin the fantasy.
