I couldn’t do b/w comics. The iPad experience isn’t bad if you have newer hardware with a good screen.
More times than I can count I've tried to pinch and zoom into a map on my Kindle. For some unknown reason it continues to not work despite me trying very hard to make it work.
I use the Kindle app on my iPad mini. It works great for me. I haven't read a paper book in at least a decade.
I use the Amazon Fire (basically their version of the iPad) - you can get it for ~$100-150 fully loaded, 2000 x 1200 resolution, etc. Also, because of the shape (can be vertical) is easier to read comics than my laptop. Also loads Netflix/streaming stuff. Easy for road trips/flights/etc

Generally speaking, I love the Kindle for reading and it's been my primary mode for 10 years or so. My noise canceling headphones and the Kindle make flying a lot more pleasant.

I had one of those for quite a few years (there was a killer sale on Prime Days one year so I snapped a couple of them up). I only switched to an iPad about a year ago when the screen on my Fire started to get a bit wonky and the battery life started to drop quite a bit. I definitely got my value out of the Fire, though.

iPad is great as I can travel with downloaded Economist, New Yorker, etc along with Wash Post and Atlantic.

Biggest downside is I’m easily distracted from long reads as I can also
access the Net. I usually don’t connect to airplane Wi-Fi for that reason.

I definitely find it easier to concentrate with proper books. Even then I can feel the erosion in my attention span.

This is my fav social media site. Refreshing to take a break from the CE threads, though.

I'd definitely prefer the ipad, but I don't want to pay like 6-10x the price

iPads are one of the few Apple things I haven't purchased.
I use my MacBook Air and the Books app.
I set the laptop on my gut, and it stays there and I can read. I don't want to have to hold a tablet or buy some gizmo to make it stay upright.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
