It was 1000xs better than She Hulk. One of the most overrated films ever. I found it boring and have cared to see it again. No idea how it was as successful as it was.
The first one in 3D IMAX was an extraordinarily immersive experience. It really was a visually spectacular movie. In every other aspect, it was sh!t. And in any other viewing environment, the impressive part is completely gone and all you're left with is the trash. I haven't seen the second one, but every review indicates it's the same. One of the most overrated films ever. I found it boring and have cared to see it again. All I remember is that Avatar basically ripped off FernGully and the main character wanted to smash some alien tail by linking tails. It's pretty wild that both of those movies made an absurd amount of money, but nobody ever seems to talk about them other than to note how nobody talks about them.
Like, there are no Avatar memes, no particular moments or characters anyone remembers. It's just an "experience," and apparently that's what you need to make a billion dollars in the theater.
I read an article about this phenomena and the part that really stuck with me was the writer asking the question, "Can you remember a single character's name?" and realizing I couldn't, and could barely remember the characters at all, other than by description- Zoe Saldana's character, the bad guy with the white hair and the scar, the main guy in the wheelchair, etc. It's pretty wild that both of those movies made an absurd amount of money, but nobody ever seems to talk about them other than to note how nobody talks about them.
