Black Panther would be credible for a best costume oscar. Best picture is a little silly.
Second best CBM would also be credible, though I suppose best CBM isn't crazy, just wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Black Panther, but Logan was a better movie.

And man, I've gotta see Into The Spiderverse while it's still in theaters, so I can get the full impact of the visuals.

Ah, fair enough. As far as 2018 cape movies though Avengers was better than BP. I’d even put Deadpool 2 above it. Psychokinesis was a more enjoyable movie, too, though I don’t know if that qualifies in this discussion.

I get the political reasons why BP was nominated, and that it’s part of the popular category that’s not going to win anyway. I’m not enraged it was nominated, just a shame that for all the good superhero movies we’ve had lately this is the one that gets nominated.

Kind of like when they nominated LOTR 3 even though it was the weakest of the three parts.

I suppose in an industry where Star Wars could lose to Rocky for Best Picture, a nomination for Black Panther really isn't that out of line.

Star Wars lost to Annie Hall in 1978. Deservedly so.

In 1977, Rocky probably shouldn't have won. Three of the other nominees were far better movies: All the President's Men; Taxi Driver; Network. Still unsure about Bound for Glory.

That said, Rocky is a better movie than Star Wars.

Someone should make a Director's Cut of Godfather III without Sophia Coppola's scenes. That would be a good movie.

There are a couple of "saga" cuts out there: seven hours of I and II combined chronologically. I think they solved the Sophia problem by just dropping III.
