X wings have 4 engines so they must be the best.

Also I don't know how that contradicts anything about my bomber role comment... The y wings went to the trench to make a pass while the x wings dealt with the other fighters.

Lasers make noise in Star Wars. We should probably not think too hard about the realism.
B-b-b-ut...a 17-year-old girl could be strong. There's gotta be a limit, right?

Obviously I would take the F-22 because it is 20 years newer than most on the list, so it has better everything. The F-35 is technically a combined role plane that has been notorious for problems so that was excluded.
I’d go with the Osprey.

A helicopter? That can be beat by a car.

The bombers in last Jedi were embarrassingly stupid. I’m sure there’s some annoying **** fanboi on YouTube who can offer some excuse but it’s too stupid to consider. Rian Johnson should be crucified alongside Kathleen Kennedy.

Does Greedo shoot first, too? I'm not talking about the awful special editions.

I checked it and you can see 3 in the swarm, 3 are destroyed on screen and 1 survives, so I guess movie implied there were more they just had hard time showing more on screen or did not feel it was necessary. 17 are idd shown in the swarm, however briefing room scene has at least 30 fighter pilots preparing for the mission. What I think authors meant were around 30 craft, they could not show it back then and 'fixed it' with special edition. Special edition swarm shot shows around 30 craft out of which 8 are Y-wings.

ps. in this scene special edition actually improved upon the movie :embar:

Why? Is this the dumb "no gravity in space" argument again? It's been explained away several times in this thread.

I mean, let's not forget that that ancient arthritic toad was able to life a multi-ton plane by extending his arm and thinking real hard. I'm pretty sure people debating the physics of Star Wars (beyond the uber-nerding out of the fictional galaxy's laws) are really missing the point.

Or that some dude can shoot lightning from his fingers. But the precise physics of how bombs fall... that's a bridge too far.

Because it doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s as jarring as having Luke suddenly drink blue milk from an alien’s ****, just because.

Stupid.

It's more like "Why use bombs?" Sure, you could engineer a bomb that would work like that, but it doesn't make any sense to do it that way instead of using the torpedoes that the universe had already established.

And the downsides are pretty obvious from the whole "all the bombers died" bit.

Exactly. It's possible to try to retro-engineer an explanation that involves metal-detecting bombs that were attracted to the targets etc etc. However, it still doesn't really make sense.

There's a good reason why we don't use Avro Lancasters in combat anymore, and why we now tend to use cruise missiles, ICBMs, or fast jets with missiles instead.

Surely a civilisation which possesses extremely advanced technology would have moved past the stage of using slow, lumbering, unmanoeuvrable bombers that get hacked to pieces.
