The sad part is you would probably enjoy it as well, just as you enjoy those garbage-tier Marvel movies that follow that script :*

Too bad RFX isn't still around. You two could argue if I'm a troll who hates on everything or if I blindly love every piece of media tossed out by companies like Disney.

No he wasn’t. He underestimated Luke, but ran the galaxy for a generation. You can do better?

This is quite poorly researched too, isn't it quite obvious from the story it was Palpatines master who if anyone might have created Anakin? Palaptine even admits talking to Anakin he doesn't have a clue how to obtain power his master supposedly had.

Why is Palpatines unconcerned with Leia? Idk maybe because he dies 5 minutes later? It's also quite obvious Vader would go after her and try to turn her if he would fail with Luke.

etc etc

No, the story he told Anakin was him. Remember Lucas was obsessed with Campbell.

it was he who have killed his all-powerful master, it did not imply Palpatine was equally powerful, most likely he was not having to kill his master this way

I have to admit that I got into fencing because of Star Wars. Not sure I'd have any interest in actual lightsaber cosplay, but ****, it's not any dumber than the SCA type Medieval/Renaissance recreation stuff.
I myself wouldn't participate but I would definitely watch other people in an official competition.

I take you are not talking about HEMA, it's basically a full-fledged sport that resembles what actual fencing would look like especially longsword fencing based on Liechtenauer treatise. It's actually way above kendo and sport fencing in terms of 'accuracy'.

I mean, "accurate to a 14th century manual" doesn't make it less dorky. It's still a sport, but one with a ruleset that's constrained to combat training for combat that you're never going to actually engage in.

Fencing is just a straight up sport. The rules are artificial, but that's how sports are. It's not "accurate" to anything, because it's a sport. You know you're never going to try to kill anybody with a sword, so you just train the stuff that's effective in the sport.

Depends what you're going for, I suppose. Anything with a sword is awesome as far as I'm concerned. IMO the HEMA/SCA stuff is just dorky awesome.

Yeah there's little chance you gonna make use of those long-sword skills in real life but I really enjoy the 'realness' aspect of it, it's as close as it gets in fencing sports(meaning longsword unarmoured fighting). Armored fighting is not accurate at all but physical and fun if you're into getting concussions . It's also a bit hard to explain carrying a sword without looking dorky, so yeah u got a point there.

Yes it is. I totally got into HEMA because of Star Wars as it was THE movie of my childhood. So I totally understand that sentiment. Also fencing sports focus heavily on strengthening legs and back which is great if you have a sitting job.

How do people look at (modern) fencing in Europe? Does it have the nerdy/effete connotations that it does in the US, or is it just a normal sport?
