Filoni's obsession with expanding prequel lore will bring in younger fans, but it doesn't work well with anyone who grew up with the OT.
I’m still giggling at Cad Bane. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. 😬

It’s not for me but I have a couple of friends around my age who enjoyed his animated shows. To each their own.

I'm an OT and ST guy. The prequels leave me cold.

I agree. Fans obsessed with “lore” have driven the franchise towards this. I’ve made the argument many times in this thread that the franchise would be better if people didn’t get so worked up on obsessive details and “canon.”

One of the things I loved the most about TLJ was the revelation that Rey was a nobody. Zero connection to anyone else in the franchise yet was strong in the force. The movie had a wonderful message that anyone can be a hero and the final shot with the kid emphasized this. It’s the perfect narrative for a franchise meant for children.

Then they threw all that away because canon/lore obsessed fans wanted her to be related to someone in the franchise. The whole “bloodlines give you strength” narrative in Star Wars is a little gross.
That's ultimately my complaint with Filoni's shows. They're all about explaining and fleshing out the lore. The Clone Wars cartoons filled in gaps in the prequels and fleshed it all out. Now a bunch of the live action shows are just calling back to Clone Wars.

Too many fans just want to see cameos or lore filler, not actually new stories.

You just know Filoni wants to be the guy who comes in and drops a bunch of shows that make the story ("story") in the sequels make sense.
Filoni's obsession with expanding prequel lore will bring in younger fans, but it doesn't work well with anyone who grew up with the OT.

It doesn't work with younger fans who didn't watch the cartoons either. It's just a very limiting approach to building shows.

I like most of the cartoons, and I appreciate and expect to be catered to.

Even if you didn’t like the sequels, I think most of us would agree it would be nice if they started advancing the story again. Move the timeline forward and tell new stories with new characters. We’ve had enough callbacks/prequels for a lifetime.

I'm not going to be able to sleep until we find out what happened to Glup Shitto during his lost years. Get on it, Filoni.

I’m sure it’s just a factor of being at an age where I’ve “seen it all.” Of all the IP from my childhood like Star Wars, Alien, Star Trek, and comic books, only Tolkien seems to hold my interest anymore.

Mostly because it’s from one author and I have accessed the source material for years. The other stuff is so segmented and convoluted after many hands have touched it with many reboots over the years.

I was working on the same reply but couldn’t think of a good cartoon character name.

One of my favorite things is watching people who grew up with the prequels not understand how hated they were at the time. You see it all over social media. They assume the prequels were adored at release because of how much they meant to them growing up.

That's why I'm not worried about the reception the sequels will have in the long run. Eventually, kids will grow up and express how much they meant to them as children.

Never forget this is a franchise about space wizards and laser swords meant for kids.

I don't know: I lose sleep over over how the long term reception of products created by the 47th largest company in the US will shape up.

To be fair I didn't make that one up. "Glup Shitto" is a meme for making fun of all the ridiculous names of minor Star Wars characters, and especially fan's obsession with them.

Also, I prefer to think of them as space paladins. The Jedi & Sith are religions, so I would argue that makes the Force divine magic not arcane. Everyone knows that wizards are arcane spellcasters.

They're supposed to be lawful good (or lawful evil in the Sith case) and they have both martial and spell casting abilities. This makes them more paladins than clerics.

I’ve always seen them as roaming space monks despite the prequels. It’s a hill I’ll die on.

I only brought this up because there is a cottage industry of rumor sites and YT personalities who spread bullshit about her getting ****-canned soon. It's all click bait but a lot of people fall for it. I find it all hilarious that some fans are so focused on hating her.

Yeah, I'm conflicted.

On one hand, I love seeing this news just to rub it in the face of all the crappy fans who have been screeching about her.

On the other hand, I can't say I love what has happened to the franchise under her command. I dislike it for different reasons than the mouth breathers calling for her head...but nonetheless I am let down by it for the reasons most people in this thread espouse.
