Darth Anteater better be careful he doesn't cut off his own genitals.
You guys are quick with the updates, I was just about to post that trailer as well.
Can't wait to see the reasoning behind Ren's unconventional light saber.
I doubt they will take time to explain it other then maybe that it's rather crude due to lack of experience in crafting them.
He needs it to protect himself against all the other people with lightsabers he has to fight.
I was Kylo Ren for Halloween this year

if anything looks like superior design - it has a guard to protect the hands
Bleeding Cool's sources seem to have confirmed to them that Rey is in fact a Skywalker. I've been leaning this way for some time and I doubt it would be a huge shock to anyone in the theater if true.
Don't be absurd. Why would you ever need to protect your hand in a light saber fight?
It doesn't protect the hands at all, which is why I imagine it would be useless on any real sword.
But in Star Wars it seems to be the wrists that always get hacked at, probably because it's more cinematic to cut off an entire hand than it is to slice off some fingers.
Crossguards on swords don't offer any protection to the hand?
Not when they have a big gap in the middle where the hand is.
No reason to not think that the mini blades start in the center closer to the main blade. Besides it's sci-fi/fantasy. Why not just spend your time arguing how the force doesn't make sense while you are at it?
I'm really sick of that argument. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it can get away with being dumb.
You are right. It can't get away with dumb. Thing is nitpicking Kylo's light saber design seems far more dumb then any failings in the weapon you have pointed out so far. Like I said earlier, you don't even know how it's supposed to work in the film.
