"You guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f*** all."

They did?

Saying an actor is **** can be unfair if their character is also ****. There's a reason the best actor nominations typically come from good movies and not **** ones.

Very true you can't do much with uninteresting role. It would be also much better if the trilogy would be made by one director not two different ones with vastly different ideas where to lead the story and which characters to develop. Seems like each time they took a wrecking ball to the previous movie.

I really think it would have seemed less like that had they gone with the original director and story they had lined up for the final movie. But yes, in the end, it seemed like a dick-waving contest between Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams, which Abrams was always going to win given that he was in overall charge, even it it was at the expense of what made sense not just in the context of these three films but of the whole story arc.

She may have been a developed character, but it wasn't a good storyline. The casino and CGI creature chase was just bad. And long. But I'm not bashing her, really. She was fine, I guess. I don't remember much of what she did, so she couldn't have sucked too badly. Come to think of it, I've managed to forget most of the movie in general, thankfully.

I’ve long said the casino stuff was the one blight on an otherwise excellent Star Wars film. I’d like to see a fan edit where they cut it down and streamlined that part. The movie was already long so it’s not as if it was hurting for run time.

Even with it as it is TLJ is still the best Star Wars film since the Original Trilogy. I hate that they threw away some of the more interesting stuff they did in it to appease angry fanbois in ROS.

I agree (when I'm trying to be objective) that Rogue One was better than the rest. I have too many childhood memories tied up in Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, though. For me, those are the subjective favorites, and they still make me happy in a way that none of the others, even Return Of The Jedi do.

For what it's worth, Solo is actually pretty good, too.

It will always be the original for me, which I still refer to as Star Wars...
I was a little kid and saw it in the theatre.
I still remember that when Leia's ship, and then the Star Destroyer chasing her was creeping overhead, my jaw was just hanging on the ground.
I had never seen anything remotely like it.

I liked Rogue One a lot but it had a huge advantage over the other recent Star Wars films. Its sole purpose was to be a bridge between Episodes III and IV and to fill in the big plot hole of IV--how did the Rebel Alliance gain a schematic of the Death Star? As a result, it could dispense with plot and characterization and focus on action. The film ended the only way it could have. If some characters had survived, viewers would be wondering where they went for the subsequent films.

Yes I was 6 when it hit the cinemas, and it's still my favourite. ESB might be a better film in some ways, but not as fun or groundbreaking. ROTJ is mixed - great in parts, but another Death Star...

Rogue One - flawed but basically a good film. Solo enjoyable popcorn film, that almost captured the fun of the original. Prequels dire (2nd one was a bit better in parts). Sequels - Mediocre and derivative but watchable, followed by interesting but flawed, followed by gigantic disappointment.

Very interesting. I view it the exact opposite, it actually dramatized the characters better than any of the other films. JJ's films were all action and plot, no dramatizing. It's why IMO K-2SOs death was the most emotional of any death in any of the films.

Bolded sentence to say I have not seen a more succinct summary of the sequel trilogy.....concur completely
