It's more like "Why use bombs?" Sure, you could engineer a bomb that would work like that, but it doesn't make any sense to do it that way instead of using the torpedoes that the universe had already established.

And the downsides are pretty obvious from the whole "all the bombers died" bit.
That's fair, but it's not really the argument that's been made against the scene the vast majority of the time. Including in this thread. People almost always jump on the gravity thing when doing internet hit and runs on it.

I mean their original use could have been for land bomb runs. It's not unreasonable to assume that they would have been forced to repurpose the ships in desperation considering where they left off from the last film.

IDK. The scene was enjoyable and helped set the emotional tone for the film going forward and that's what really matters most here. Not how optimal the military equipment used was.

People accept some reasonable portions of incongruence with logic. However in some movies there are moments that are too ridiculous even for internal logic the movie sets for itself. Example could be nuke the fridge moment in Indiana Jones. Same situation here with paper bombers, it's so ridiculous it takes many people out of immersion in the movie. So it's bad design/writing if you notice that without serious nitpicking - and many people did so imo the scene is quite bad.

I was a big fan of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Must have played that campaign 5-6 times.

I also liked The Force Unleashed. It was an excellent game. Part 2 was a disappointment.

BTW I'd like to start a charity to provide free sterilizations to anyone who regularly reads epicstream.com.

I try not to click on star wars youtube videos because if I do I'll get bombared by suggestions of videos starring dipshits wearing storm trooper helmets, like the ones you post.

That being said I did get prompted with this brief rant about newer movies, which I enjoyed.

A bit of a 'golden age' rant, but then we're all guilty of those from time to time.
