I've personally never minded tassels on loafers, any more than bits, kiltie strips, or straps. Without laces, anything above a Belgian slipper requires some kind of embellishment to make up for it. A penny loafer is above reproach, and its venerable strap once housed actual pennies to glint and gleam into the eyes of onlookers! So there is precedent for extraneous decor.

The coat in Crompton's outfit, though, is rather crude.

Simon Crompton came from journalism in finance and law, so he does carry some of the corporate vibe and discipline both to his writing and style, although he still dresses better than ninety nine percent of the employees of these firms. Been a native English speaker too from the United Kingdom, he communicates clearly and respectively with the audiences, despite been bald and sloped shouldered, maintains a trim and athletic figure. He has a pleasant and approachable demeanour too, a great interviewer and charming moderator.

Similar to Mark Cho, who crossed over from real estate, both of their styles are leaning more towards a classical office, meeting room or casual presentational look, particularly when compared to some of the other more dandier menswear influencers and purveyors. Judging by the relative success of the Permanent Style brand and The Armoury stores, their overall tastes still speaks to a good proportion of the menswear community. And yes, Mark does look very young due to his baby face and lack of facial hair even by standards here in Asia.

Personally also, it was one of Simon's pieces introducing me to the brand Cohérence, and enticed me to try on one of their trench coats and ultimately purchasing and enjoying the garment.

Oxford guy if I recall correctly...

I know an Oxford guy, who incidentally is extremely well dressed,
in Silicon Valley finance and probably worth several hundred million
dollars. Also a Public School grad.Nevertheless, he didn't know who
Henry Fielding was. I guess that's the difference between
being smart and beng educated.. He is not a techie.

RE: Simon. I've writtem this before. When and if I am ready to go bespoke,
he is an excellent guide to the tailors in the UK and Italy and even the US to
some extent. What isn't clear to me is the difference between say Ciardi, and
Zizofi, or even Panico. That goes for Redmayne, Hitchcock, and Steed

Isn’t the whole point of those 3 you’re getting A&S cut at a “discount”?

No disrespect at all intended - I think Tom at Redmayne is very engaging, and his content very helpful, and would love to be able to afford something cut by him

To my untrained eyes Hitchcock's work looks better than A&S, at least by browsing images they're tagged in on instagram. I've seen some work from A&S and Steed that look less than ideal. If anything I'd be willing to pay a premium for Steven's work over A&S.

Since we happen to be in the PS thread, I think the jackets Steven made for Simon are some of the best that I've seen on the PS site.
