1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I offered him $15. It was 15% of what I wanted. Whatever.

I don't really think there's much wrong with that, but hey, where's the fun in putting things into context?

is that an appropriate amount? it doesn't seem like a lot to most new yorkers given a drink at the bar can cost you $20, but if you are going there anyway and the item isn't too hard to find, you can package it up and walk a few blocks to find a post office (and god forbid, make a friend at the same time), it's really not a bad deal.

anyway, i'm a little disappointed how jaded some new yorkers can be sometimes (maybe i just haven't been burned enough growing up in honest communities). i'd like to think styleforum is an honest community with a population of 150,000.

either way, barring any emergencies, i plan to head to the RL sale on friday pm and venture over to isaora just because it's close by. anyone want a proxy, please let me know. i don't plan to make more than i earn per hour from the proxy, all i ask for is that you pass it on and help the next person.

i think that's actually an appropriate amount. i'm sorry he has to broadcast to the public when he can simply say no thanks and move on.

I paid 100% markup for SALT proxy last time around. Frame arrived warped. YMMV.

Completely agree. He really came across like a douchebag. I've had people on SF proxy stuff for me for free (most were paid though), and I'd gladly help a few souls out if Toronto wasn't such a barren wasteland when it came to this kinda stuff.

But hey, fuck the guy who offered a 15% fee right.

I would just use Suddenlee for any NYC based stuff. 15% maybe makes sense if you're going to the sale anyway. I don't think he's going to the sale for himself.

i would completely agree its not worth the effort to go just for the sake of making $15 in frigid cold; i wouldn't do it myself. in that case he could have just said no and moved on. but broadcasting to the forum as if someone just ate his dog is not an adult move. not cool. just saying.

Meh not a big deal, lets move on. Some people like to help others out and some people are busy and value their time. Depends on the community I guess, SF is big enough to have both people. When I was shopping for a vintage car I've had strangers on forum drive 30+ minutes for a promising car, give it a full inspection, take pictures and videos, and sent me their opinion on it. Saved me hundreds of dollars in plane tickets and buying a lemon. Good peeps online :slayer:

Yep, I didn't mind proxying about 4.5k worth of shit for free from atelier even though I was offered at least a 5% commission. I'm a real douchebag because I don't want to go out of my way to go to a sample sale for 15 dollars. :) If I think you're a good dude, I'll go out of my way for you. If not, too fucking bad for you.

15% is more than fair percentage wise, but you have to think in terms of what the pay off is worth to someone than just on a strictly percentage basis. Even if you offered 99% on a 1 dollar item I don't think anyone is going to take you up on it...

Proxying is a huge pain if someone isn't already going to make the trip for themselves as it not only means making time to go somewhere, trying earnestly to actually get the item requested and then there's shipping. Dealing with shipping along makes me pretty uninterested in selling anything including stuff I never wear... I don't think I'd proxy anything for anyone for less than $100 dollars if it meant going out of my way in any sort of way. The exception being for anyone that's proxied for me before then I'm definitely willing to reciprocate even if it means dealing with all the hassle I outlined.

I've always offered 5% or minimum 50-100 dollars at the bare minimum depending on what I'm after.

Is there a sale thread on here? I somehow landed on the "proxy problems" thread.
