smartwool makes those. a google search (smartwool loafer socks) will turn up a bunch of results at decent prices (but it's fall already, so clearance prices on those might be rare).

Oxfords are closed laced, derbies are open laced - Bal's are closed laced, blucher's are open laced. What am I missing (genuine interest!).

Oxfords are closed laced, derbies are open laced - Bal's are closed laced, blucher's are open laced. What am I missing (genuine interest!).

You're right all balmorals and oxfords are close laced and all derbies and bluchers are open laced.

Subtle difference.

Derby vs Blucher

Balmoral shoes/boots have a ""golosh" --the single piece that forms the vamp and quarters and wraps around or closes at the heel. Looking kind of like a pump with a top. Probably neither here nor there but important in the world of shoemaking.'
