here's the OG b-bender tele (as constructed and played by clarence white) not too far off from some of the relic stuff

I've always wanted to know this: What the **** is a b-bender? It only bends the b string? What are the uses for that?

Yup, it's just for the B string. It's a country/blues thing. My theory isn't deep enough to know why that string but I know it'll do three or four half tones up.

probably went with the b because it's unwound and easier to maintain intonation but still gets you that lap steel type effect. i can see using the g as well and it's probably been done.

here's clarence in action at the playboy mansion, you can see his shoulder working the bender, interestingly he does a lot of work with the bend engaged and then lets it 'off' to effect. the original byrds recording was a lap steel and he's just doing that part here

love the dancing.

Putting together a pedal board for my bass. Tuner, compressor, distortion. Thing that's all I'm doing.

Probably a Big Muff Pi for bass.

I should also note my amp, a Fender Rumble, has an OD channel.

If memory serves, Martin put out a Byrds inspired 7 string dreadnought (maybe a D-28) that had a pair of B strings (like a 12 string is rigged). An effort to get a more "clangy" sound without going full 12 string.

I'd show pictures of it to guitar playing friends and ask "do you see anything unusual?" Many would stare and stare then slap their foreheads when I pointed it out.

I have a Gibson ES-350, and since I got my hand on this, I keep it as a treasure. I've dreamed about it for so long because no other Gibson has had those specs ever, and it's an exceptional guitar. The sunburst finish, the split parallelogram inlays, the bounded neck, and so many other features make this guitar representative and special.

What year was it made?

An interesting thing to note is bands that let the bass carry the melody on a regular basis. Leaving aside Rush, I was just noticing Bush does this as I was picking the tab for a few of their songs.

My buddy moved recently, and decided he didn't need his dual-humbucker Strat to make the move with him. So now I have it. I haven't had a humbucker guitar since...1997?

I was jamming to Closer to the Heart on bass. It is a great one for bass melody. It gets complicated during the guitar solo. There's a real technique to Geddy Lee's bass stuff. I feel like you have to know the songs (in your head) very very well to be able to get it. It is more of a feel than simply learning the notes. Obviously you can learn the notes, but it makes it easier to kind of know the "Geddy thing" he's got going on.

Geddy is a superlative musician. I mean, if he had just been Rush's bassist he would have been highly impressive, but to do that while being leads singer (no matter what one thinks of his voice) while also playing keyboards? I really enjoy when Alex is riffing and Geddy carries the melody on bass.

Have you seen him when Yes was inducted?
