current gibsons are meh. decent i guess, but a FAR cry from the old ones. I will say that i loved my newer SG.

i really wish they offered the VT80 without all the knobs and effects....if it only had a volume and a tone knob, id be all over it for a practice amp.

a good gibson out of the box is 100% better than a good new fender out of the box. set ups are horrendous on new fenders.

Sources tell me the current 2013 Gibsons are incredible, only the reissues of course. I love Gibson. Pio, don't get a solid state amp. They are for plebs.

Fender amps are only good with single coils, imo. 6L6 and 6V6 tubes pushed sound muddy with humbuckers. Essentially fender amps are made for Fender guitars.

P-90's is a different story. I still find 6L6's to not sound great dirty. EL-34's all of the way. KT66 is a good midpoint.

Also, the best humbuckers sound very much like p-90's due to the mismatched coils.

If you semi-pros/long time hobbyists can't even decide on a pickup how's a noob to pick a single guitar he'll be satisfied with?

Also, those Vox have a tube power circuit.
