... but look.... the tone of the posts (no pun intended) began as posting the goodies. It started off with with some great stuff... and old Fender Esquire, the Gibson, there's a bad-ass old Tweed in there... and then it went all to hell. Posting a pic of five series-linked Boss pedals in your "pedalboard"? Shall we go over to men's clothing and post a pic a my new polyester suit from G2000 and see if it doesn't get flamed nuclear?? well that's what I was saying.... I love it when dudes rock a Jackson into a solid-state Crate amp and think it's the ****... I trust your real gear & we can nit-pick but I have tons of stuff. A few examples: Some of the guitars: Taylor 614 GA(pre-2000 before they cheaped out!), Pawar Prestige TOTC one-off, vintage & rare model G&L tele.... some amps: Miller Audio Design custom Tweed, Dr. Z Carmen Ghia... Effects: Teese, ZVex, Moog, Fulltone, Lovetone,... etc.

I definitely see where you are coming from and I agree with some of it, but not all. I guess reading your posts earlier I thought you were about to list that you played Gustavssons, D'Pergo's, Two Rock amps, Komet amps, Landgraff pedals, and other high end stuff. I guess I'm a little let down by your list. Not saying it's bad stuff. I actually have owned some of the stuff in your list. And it is great, but not super high end like I was expecting. My pedal board consists of boutique and mass produces gear and I think it sounds great.

That having been said I want a tremolo probe badly.

hey... ya u nailed it..... I have a ZVex Tremolo Probe & it is amazing. U can use it as a volume pedal in a way that is unlike anything else b/c it behaves like a theremin...as you put you foot closer or farther it reacts to the proximity. (u kno that but if anyone's reading) Using that on stage I would sometimes use my hand waving over it to affect a ring mod or delay and people close in the audience would be so tripped out.... like WTF is that!? It's much fun....

but the Seek Wah is wicked as well... i love knobs & dials!!!

well I didn't want this to be a gear pissing contest as it no doubtably would devolve into. The stuff I threw out is just some of my home gear that is good and solid. And having used it for gigs in various unsavoury locations I'm not keen on plopping 20k worth of gear on the stage for some douche to end up tripping over, spiling beer on, ashing on it, etc. Studio gear is something else altogether... but as it's not my studio 100% I don't claim ownership of it. It's part of my toolset. But we had a Two Rock & I think the Z stacks up. The Komet is definitely better for sure... they sound great. There's a Santa Cruz, Charles Fox, a Triggs that is just beautiful. There is always better ****.... but the stuff I mentioned does have good tone which is where it started. It's not all super-high end but that wasn't really the point. Sorry to bum you out.... Love to see your board tho!

"we need a sub-thread in here called "tone forum"... the above list being Exhibit A.... with the exception of the Gretsch, this list of gear is a tone nightmare... Derek, maybe you should hang with poly800rock's pedalboard. Come on you're from Nashville.. you should know better."

Sorry, I just thought this was funny.

Anyways, I definitely agree tone is where it's at and not how much money is being spent. I'll try to get a pic of my board up. It's basically: Volume Pedal>Tim overdrive>Boss DD-20>Line 6 Verbzilla>Tuner> into a Gabriel Voxer amp. I've gotten rid of a lot of my boutique stuff. I'll be replacing the DD-20 and Verbzilla with a Line 6 M9 that will cover all my delays and reverbs. I'll also be adding another nice overdrive and maybe a fuzz.

Yeah I've taken a lot of the boutique stuff off my board. Gone are the Super Hard On and the Zendrive. Right now I'm running Guitar>TU-3 Tuner>Keeley Katana Boost> Marshall Bluesbreaker 1 > NYC Big Muff RI > POG > Whammy WH4 > DD-7. Nothing there that's really boutique at all but it sounds awesome.

at least someone thought it was funny! One tone that cannot be conveyed here is tone of voice... & I was not intending to be a dick... certainly just because something is pricey doesn't mean it's sounds great... but that over-processed tone thru a solid state amp is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. That's an interesting mix you got there.... how's the Gabriel? I've not rocked one before.... I'm a sucker for spring reverb tho... drop it in the tank!

I love the Gabriel. Great amp for Vox or Marshall tones. I like spring reverb too, but it is limited. And can't do some of the wacky reverb stuff I like.

So I'm a long way off from being able to utilize one of the guitars I've poasted pornographic shots of...but here is my rather modest guitar.

I say get the Tele!
