In the books, Tyrion is hard up and women make him stupid. They take advantage of him. His first wife might not have been a prostitute, but that doesn't mean she didn't marry him for the money. Then there was Shae, a character the TV show gets completely wrong. She's casted as an intelligent, mysterious, witty foreigner. In the books she was an empty twit and yet Tyrion was taken with her all the same. You know how it works out. Is there any reason to think the first one would have been different?
Tywin obviously both loves and hates Tyrion--complex characters are what made the books so interesting.
Spoiler: Warning: Spoiler!
I disagree with the analysis of the crofter's daughter (his first wife). Everything that Tyrion, and later Jaime, say about her makes it pretty clear she actually cared for him. But yeah, I agree with the overall point that Tyrion's cock often seems to get the best of him.
but whos doesnt really?
You need to remember that the books are from Tyrion's POV. He's coming off Shae's betrayal and suddenly he's given a reason to believe 1) his falling for Shae was his dad's fault; and 2) he had a real Shae and dad wrongfully took her away. He romanticizes someone who's gone out early (in the honeymoon phase, even), and it's got to be easier than the probable reality that she wouldn't have given him a second look if he wasn't a rich nobleman--and no beautiful young woman would.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it implied in the book that Stannis didn't really know the plan the first time? And both times, it took so much out of Stannis it aged him a decade and nearly killed him. He also keeps sleeping with the red witch for years afterwards (or in the book, maybe he didn't start until later).
I'm finding Theon's sister pretty hot.
As said, she's very plain looking, but if you look into her eyes and how she emotes you can tell shes the kind of girl who will do absolutely anything in bed and ask for seconds. Plus she acts cute. I totally loved it when she popped out of nowhere and said "We yield!"
She was pretty hot reading about her.
Not so much when I saw her on tv.
this. not hot on TV. she def gives off that whoreish vibe like reggs said, but she aint hot.
She's a good actress and looks appropriate for a daughter of the Iron Islands, but I too read her as a bit of a pirate babe.
Brienne is physically appropriate. I'm just not sure she's a great actress. Or they are making her too earnest and it doesn't play well.
That's pretty true to her character in the books, though, isn't it?
I think it's interesting how GRRM manages to make the people who rigidly adhere to a moral code seem like the dupes in the story. It's the people with fluid morals that seem to do well.
i think she looks very appropriate for a greyjoy. a smoking hot chick would not have been imo congruous with the part. she does good job of exuding a certain sexuality without being terribly attractive physically.
Based on how the father and brother look/act I think she's perfect for the part.
Yes, but character on paper is less intense than on screen. You need to modify it and bring some subtlety into the performance otherwise it screams. At this point she's an automaton like Princess Amidala. I honestly think it's an unexperienced actor trying to figure out the character and I hope she nails it.
I agree, I just read her as more vivacious. Maybe if she washed her hair.
Liking the Iron Islands in general.
Yeah, I've gotta agree with that.
Her back arch when Theon starting to fingerbang her shows a certain icky dirtiness to her.
