They were always going to have to take significant liberties. The book is way too detailed, has too many characters, and too much of the exposition and story is told is in the form of character's unspoken observations and recollections. I'm surprised that they are creating new scenes out of whole cloth but I'm also kind of glad. I have disliked some of the new scenes but some of them were really good, and it's nice that I can expect some surprises despite knowing the story.

This is great, but it misses perhaps the best one. See the bottom:

I'm too lazy to research where the scenes in the mountains of the north were shot but I was sure impressed and satisfied.

I saw a behind the scenes of that the other day and I think it was in Iceland. Well, I have to agree that this episode was really good. I guess I should have known what the smoke demon that melisandre spawned was goind to be for, but didn´t expect for renly to go that way when it happened.

ps: daenerys´ helper, the taller brunette, is really hot. Hope to see more of her.

    Valar morghulis.

Jaqen looks kind of young but doesn't bother me. Xaro is still a really weird casting decision.

Yeah Xaro doesn't really fit my image of him. I was thinking he would be slightly androgynous with sort of East Asian features, not a huge, hulking black man. But I also think he's going to take a different role than he did in the book.
