Imagine being so fragile you can't stand the thought of a fictional show with different politics than your own. It's like saying I'm out on Chernobyl because it showed communism. Fucking pathetic.

I do actually enjoy the fantasy colonialism/racism allegories that give the European stand-ins actual racial superiority, like being fireproof and able to ride dragons.

Does that show sound good to you?

"You know what will make game of thrones better? Hamfisted modern politics."

As opposed to the politics of a monarchy or authoritarianism or any other political system? Why is "modern politics" hamfisted? It's all fucking politics.

There's a difference between "this show involves politics" a la GoT and "this show hamfists modern issues into it sloppily." The first is enjoyable while the second blows.

"Modern issues" have existed since we started walking upright. There is nothing fucking modern about migration, immigration, emigration, sex, homosexuality, bisexuality, gender fluidity, etc. You may wish that shit didn't exist, but it does and always has. The only thing you object to is a fictional show addressing basic human behavior that you find abhorrent. Normal people just don't give a fuck about that, hence the popularity of mafia movies and shows.

The second episode was a little better, and the actors are decent, so hopefully, it’ll hike itself up to HBO standards. As is, it just felt like a Showtime show — nasty and forgettable.

Did you see the shower scene, based (they claim) on the one in Carrie? Dicks everywhere! Literally jumping up and down. Like screaming at prudish viewers, “Get mad at me! (Please?)”.

"This story centers on the decline and fall of Valyria, a colonial empire which ruled half of the known world at its height. It reveals the social, economic, and political crises which tore apart the empire from within. A major focus of this prequel is on diversity, as it deals with issues of immigration, naturalization, and cultural identity - all within a multi-ethnic democratic state. The central conflict that kicks off the series is, "what does it mean to be 'Valyrian', and who gets to share in that power and prestige?"

Adios, HBO...
This has to be a joke, right?

edit: sounds like there might still be hope:

Empire of Ash is one of four different prequel pitches that HBO is considering as of early 2019. So far, no official statement has even been made about the existence of the pitch, and it is only known from a major leak to the administrative staff Game of Thrones Wiki itself in July 2018.
HBO has not, as of yet, ordered a pilot for Empire of Ash, though it has not outright rejected the pitch either (as it did for the fifth prequel pitch, according to Martin)
