Ok, so I was really wrong about the time . I'm not wrong about it being worthwhile. Well, the first 120 hours, at least...

EDIT: ok, so I know I said recently that if I'd known back when I first read GoT that it was never going to end, that I'd never have started, which seems to contradict the above. But here's the more complete assessment- you shouldn't start it. But once you start, you might as well ride it out until it's done, then move on with your life.

Which sounds a lot like what I tell people about law school, now that I think about it...

That's a lot of time when I can watch the TV series and see some T&A.

Dude, multitask. Listen to audiobooks while surfing Appreciation on the internet. I'm sure there's a Game of Thongs, or Game of Bone, or something, if you want to see fantasy T&A.

Hows the narrator on the GoT audiobooks? Sometimes it can really kill the experience

He’s OK. He has different accents for all the characters, which I’m not really a fan of.

for those of you still into the series and show, some recommendations.
Podcast: Binge Mode's episode by episode rewatch. The woman who MCs and in charge (something Rubin) is great. It is mostly an appreciation show, but focuses on thematic and character analysis. The show uses a consistent format for every episode which is actually fun rather than annoying.
Blog: Steven Attwell's chapter by chapter reread and analysis. He is currently in the middle of ASOS. This guy has serious chops - he is a history professor - and before doing the chapter by chapter reread analysis he had written tons of essays on the series - focusing on the politics and economy. His emphasis, after the analysis itself, is on the historical and military parallels. Not surprising given his specialty but I would have preferred more thematic and literary analysis. It is still great. He also concludes each chapter posts with a "what if" section, discussing how things would have been different if a character chose a different course - which I don't care for - and a comparison with the show treatment and the impact of the changes - which I like. Super recommended.

The depth of Atwell's analysis is pretty mind-boggling and not just the chapter by chapter re-reads. Also, it seems to avaoid both fanboying and hating. He obviously loves the series because he spends so much time on it, but it doesn't read like his personal emotional laundry airing.
The blog is called race for the thrones or something like that.

Mallory Rubin - they used to have Wesley Morris (on a different podcast) who was really good, but I believe he works for the NY Times now
