Loras Tyrell is too girly. He's suppose to be pretty for a knight, not a runway model pretty boy who doesn't look like he could lift a sword.

He is quite capable of lifting ranmey's (sp?) sword...

Actually I've found casting to be so, so for major characters. Robert Baratheon was poorly casted, IMO. Ditto Ned Stark, Kat Stark, Loras, Mance Raider.

Ned might have been different from the book, but Sean Bean's performance was iconic. I can't really argue with it.

I'm not going to argue that Bean did not kill it but I'll stand pat on the thought it was not faithful to the book.

To give some kudos on casting, Drogo nailed it and Joffery was genius.

I feel bad for the Drogo guy.

It was an awesome role and he was perfect in it...its a shame it couldn't even last a full season (plus a S2 cameo).

    For the major characters:

Ned Stark- solid- they aged everyone up, adults and some kids; he's neither handsome nor ugly
Catelyn Tully- I like her acting; of course Cat in the books is younger, but I expected her hair to be a little more auburn - they've destroyed the character, but not by miscasting the actress
Arya Stark- perfect, but they've relegated her to second tier just because she's not in KL and not a sex symbol
    Tyrion Lannister- perfect; great acting;
    Bran Stark- very good
    Jon Snow- solid
    Sansa Stark- very good
Daenerys Targaryen- she looks so much better with her natural hair color; obviously aged up; she had no material last year, but was great last episode and in the first season
Ser Jaime Lannister- really has become the character; looks the part
Brienne the Beauty- really embodies the role; I couldn't think they could have found a better actress to physically play the part
Queen Cersei Lannister- I wasn't crazy about her in the first season physically, but I've accepted that she's not unbelievably gorgeous. The actress has been outstanding, especially in Blackwater
Samwell Tarly- I like the actor and fits the physical description
Theon Greyjoy- just didn't feel right in season one, but I like him now; did great acting last season
Ser Davos Seaworth- I really like him; well cast; wish they'd use him more
Melisandre- I don't like her; I do like they cast a German so her accent is not English or Scottish, but she doesn't seem right and hasn't acted very well so far
Ser Barristan Selmy- he's not major yet, but I'll include him here; he's a little too big in the middle; should be strapping even in his mid-50s, but the right look facially and a good actor with limited material
Asha (Yara) Greyjoy- terrible; she's supposed to be a sexy lithe warrior woman; not a pudgy ugly woman

    For the featured characters:
King Robert Barratheon- definitely not tall and imposing enough
Sandor Clegane- other than Brienne, the perfect physical specimen for the role; and he's been absolutely terrific as an actor, unfortunately they only used him as a prop in season 1
Viserys Targaryen- even a young Julian Sands wouldn't have been better
Ser Jorah Mormont - way, way too good looking
    Lord Commander Jeor Mormont- perfect
Lysa Tully - terrible; skinny rather than plump
Lord Robert (Sweet Robin) Aryn- fine; I fear he's grown too much in the interim period
Lord Petyr Baelish (LIttlefinger) - he chews the scenery more than Ricardo Montelbon in Wrath of Khan. Great in the first season and then terrible since
Varys- wonderful actor; played just perfectly; looks right
Grand Maester Pycell- perfectly cast and played
    Maester Luwin- very good
Maester Aemon- absolutely perfect; I hope he lives long enough to return to the show
Magister Illyrio- way too thin; should have been morbidly obese or as close as an actor can be
    Khal Drogo- very good
Tywin Lannister- absolutely perfect; great actor; looks the part
Kevan Lannister- perfect, why hasn't he returned?
    Bronn - very good
    Osha- fine
    Craster- solid
Mance Rayder- looks too old, too sloth, should be a warrior and politician
    Tormund Giantsbane- very well cast
Ygritte- very good, although not enough ugly
Margaery Tyrell- aged up a hell of a lot and a very different character
King Joffrey- great job acting the part
Ser Loras Tyrell- too pretty, too small, too weak looking
King Renly Baratheon- hated him, should look like a young King Robert, broad through the chest and all
King Stannis Baratheon- very good casting, although should be an ugly version of Robert, looking aged, but different; they've destroyed his character, but he's acting it well
Lord Roose Bolton- very good, but talks way too loud; should be whisper quiet
    Ramsay- great eyes

    Minor characters:
Ser Gregor Clegane- perfect in season one; terrible in season two- they need to get Conan Stevens back
    Janos Slynt- fine
Late Lord Frey- perfect; don't know if he's returning, heh
    Quorin Halfhand- underwhelming
    Yoren- very good
    Dolorous Edd- solid
Ser Allister Thorne- I really hope they bring him back; he did great work with the part
King Balon Greyjoy - very well cast
Blackfish - like him a lot in the couple scenes he's been in
Lord Edmure Tully - haven't seen him enough, but fine so far
Lord Greatjon Umber- perfect; he hasn't been asked to return, terrible news
Ser Rodrik Cassel- very, very good; perfectly cast
Lord Rickard Karstark- very good so far; great beard

    Who:
    Queen Talisa-
search lannister honeypot on youtube- great stuff- she's a mix between her mother and Jeyne Westerling; unless it's just bogus
    Ros- stop wasting my time

    Who did I miss?

    Saalador Saan- fine
Queen of Thorns- perfect, although not short enough- guess you can't have everything
Xoros - terrible; ruined his character and I wasn't expecting him to be a Summer Islander; should have been cast as Moqorro if they wanted the actor

I was not going to mention Tyrion because Dinklage is killing it but even that, other than the fact Dinklage is a dwarf, really is not what anyone could accurately call a good match vs. the book.

The books make it quite clear Tyrion is quite physically repulsive. Dinklage is actually not a bad looking guy (no homo).

Sure, but the producers affirmatively eschewed eye color, which is a critical piece in the genealogy of Westeros. Dany's eyes should be purple, the Reed's green, the Lannister's green, except Tyrion
lending to the possibility that he's a Targaryen bastard - commonly Targaryen bastards had mismatched eyes in prior generations, plus the white blonde hair would make sense too
, Stark grey eyes, Baratheon blue eyes, etc.

True enough but that a) doesn't make it more accurate and b) does not change my overall assessment, i.e. Dinklage is not a bad looking guy and Tyrion was quite clearly repulsive. Am I happy with Dinklage in that role? Sure thing, he's nailing it. Based on fidelity to the book though, outside of the fact they're both dwarves, not a great match. I could also go as far as to say Dinklage's mellow voice and demeanor run counter to the probably book personage too.

WOah, some serious geeking going on here. Dunno how some of you guys enjoy the show with such a critical eye toward nonsense.

I really liked the guy who played Sallador. He and the actor who plays Davos (who is perfectly cast) had a lot of chemistry in their short scenes together. I wish they could have worked him into more scenes.

Fuck yeah! Awesome episode. By not having read the book, I certainly did not expect everything that happened. But this episode had pretty much everything. A great fight, lots of plotting, some suprise reactions from a few characters (at least for me), our new favorite couple finally bumping uglies...

One of the best episodes yet.

Ser Barristan not being on the counsel is explained
(although how's he going to tell Dany of Jorah's betrayal)

Lord Beric and Sandor was incredible. Took away Sandor's second best line ever though- The night is dark and full of terrors. "I'm the only terror in this cave."

    The bath scene terrific.

The ending scene with Lord Tywin and his kids was great.

Liked Selyse even sans moustache, but they really are destroying Stannis.

And, Shireen singing Patchface's song at the end was just scary.

    Fool's Blood. King's Blood. Blood on a Maiden's Thigh...
