So April is the due date. What does everything think of the casting that they've seen so far? How do you think they'll deal with certain plot threads?

Link?

Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon will be interesting. As will Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister. Sean Bean plays a common soldier better than a king I think, but he'll still be alright (plus I'm a big fan so I'll do my best to forgive any shortcomings). The new Daenerys looks better than the original, but that's not much. Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo... interesting. Looks wise it's okay as he's big and has long hair. I would've liked to see a more Native American appearance though, and I don't think he's an especially talented actor judging from what I saw of him on Stargate Atlantis.

But overall the casting seems good and it's usually one of HBO's strengths. There are no characters that I can recall that I disagreed strongly with.

Excited about this series. Game of Thrones are amazing novels, probably some of the only 'fantasy' that I could totally get into. I was surprised how well the casting was done. Roles like Tyrion and the Stark kids look well casted. Daeny is the role that most fans seem suspicious of but really she is probably one of the more difficult roles to cast in the series considering her development and the limited skills of most contemporary Hollywood actresses. I am inclined to put my trust in HBO however as most of their shows have excellent casting and going with an unknown like this Emilia girl seems like the wisest move. She could be a show stealer. Mark Addy is good choice for Fat Bob. Eddard was never my favorite character from the books so Sean Bean seems alright to me. Hoping that Jack Gleeson can be a proper ass for Joffrey and Maisie Williams can make Arya as cool on screen as her character is in the books.

Casting a Hawaiian as Drogo is great choice IMO but I don't much about this particular actor.

They certainly could have done worse, and I'm sure Momoa will be fine. Just from GRRM's descriptions and the image in my head I'm seeing Native American not Hawaiian.

Oh, and for those who are interested there is a new 10-minute, behind-the-scenes video over at the Game of Thrones website and the series looks great. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was in an erect state for the duration of the video, and some time after.

Okay, so Ep1 last night. What did everyone think? Outside of casting issues, i.e. Robert Baratheon was just fat vs. being a huge warrior gone to fat, I thought it was pretty damn good. Followed the book pretty religiously, costumes and sets and staging great, camera work great...just basically pretty damn good.

I wonder if they can keep this up?

Oh, and bite me. Also, pretty sure I've figured out who the one star bandit/stalker is now too.
